Eddie Bauer coats worth a try?

I have two possible contenders at Eddie Bauer I could try, a down coat and a parka. If I try the down coat, which color should I order? I know that the parka looks fairly short in the picture, but the measurements say it's even longer than the puffer (which may make for horrible proportions, but who knows?).

Astrid, I'd try to talk with them to get more exact measurements.

My experience with Eddie Bauer has been mixed. I had a rain anorak from them that worked quite well (sadly, I had to give it up as it was too large). But when my weight was higher I found their sizing wrong for me; my hips were too wide for their coats/ long jackets.

I do believe the sizing pattern has changed, however, so it's definitely worth investigating.

I prefer the plum colour for the coat, I think.

Thanks Suz, I'm going to do that. I think I like the plum better too, although this color looks horrible on me when it has warm undertones... As for the jackets, I had an Eddie Bauer cord jacket a while ago (that was when they still cut their things a lot bigger) and it's an awesome quality. Of course it didn't fit me right (I know that now), but I couldn't part with it, I think it's in the basement.

ETA
I just saw they say in the description that the coat is cut slim, not a good sign.

Ok it's the Sherpa-lined trench coat, and not on the US site. Darn I really like it.

Astrid: I bought my puffer from EB last December, and it looks just like the one in the first 3 pics --- only deep red, with fur trimmed hood.

I've been very pleased with mine, and found it ran just a little big, which meant I went for large, instead of an extra large. I'm a 12-14 and 5'6" with regular arm length.

I LOVE this coat for Chicago winters. BTW -- I purchased in the store for 40% off in December. They did deep discounts before Christmas and had lots of stock.

Thanks Beth Ann! I contacted them and asked about measurements, now I'll wait and see what they say. Sounds like it could work out! You look great in yours (no pardon needed!) and it seems to fit shoulders and hips. Althought you're taller than me, so that might make a difference, they don't have petite sizing. I'm not sure I can wait for a sale, although that would be great. We don't have B&M EB stores here and some of the colors are already sold out completely online.

They finally answered and said the M should fit. I'm thinking about trying the plum puffer - what do you think? I also really like the look of the parka, but I'm not sure if it would be warm enough.

I've bought EB down jackets and have always been happy with the quality. They often have prettier colors than some of the other companies like LLBean and Lands End IMO. And warmth has never been a problem, even at -30/-40C.

I bought a Esprit down 3/4 jacket last year that I wore constantly in -30C weather. It was quite fitted in the waist for a rectangle and a bit big in the hips but I loved it so much that I was willing to overlook a few imperfections. LLBean is a favorite of my sister who is much more of a pear/hourglass because they also seem to cut some coats for a larger hip. LLBean tends to fit large, so I always size down.

Thanks Gaylene! I've had a look at Esprit, but I didn't like the cuts or the colors so far. LLBean is not available here. I might try the EB coat then, sounds like it would be a good buy if it fits.

Thanks Aida! I just ordered both the plum puffer and the parka, in addition to another puffer (red) that was on sale. I hope one of those finally works out!
