EB coats didn't work out either

I got them today and I couldn't wait to try them on, but all three didn't work out. I don't even want to bother with pictures - I'm really fed up with coat shopping. Why is it so difficult? Oh, I know why - I don't wear pants only in winter. Urgh.

Thanks Ornella! The main problem is finding a coat that is long enough and still correctly on top and in the hips. I want a coat that is over the knee and kind of fit and flare, tailored on top so that you can see my waist, but it has to fit my hips. And I need something warm, a wool coat isn't warm enough. Mosts coats I've tried so far were puffers and I don't really like the look of them, but other warm coats that are longer are even harder to find. Maybe I should just buy a short one and invest in some skinnies I don't feel too self-conscious in to tuck into my winter boots...

Rachylou, it was the fit yes. I'm too shortwaisted and small on top!

Thanks Suz! It was really cold today and I was frozen in my thin coat. If it stays cold it is my old winter coat from tomorrow on (and I really don't like it, the fit isn't great either).

I'm shortwaisted too. I know how that is. One of the reasons I am always buying a new puffer... always on the look out for something better.

For me warmth trumps all. I go for the longer coats, no matter.

Oh poor thing! I've seen all your coat posts and really feel for you. I'm no help since I live in a part of the US that doesn't get super cold. I don't have to look for both style and quality as even a poor quality coat will keep me plenty warm enough.

Im so sorry to hear this! Glad you have something warm to wear until you do find 'the one.' Its good that you know what your fit issues are and what you dont want already...just hang in there and keep looking

Rachylou, I'm also all for the warmth! I think because I do have a coat already (even if it's not fab) I don't want to spend much money on an interim solution.

That makes sense. If you've got a coat to hold you, you can be PPP on the search. Money is definitely better spent elsewhere.

That's so frustrating when you know what you want but just can't find it. The realist in me, however, says that your first priority has to be warmth, even if you don't quite hit your fashion mark. So, in the meantime, buy a new scarf and wear that older coat with attitude and stay warm! But keep looking, because you never know when all of a sudden the perfect item can just appear--as if by magic.

Hi I totally feel your pain. I am pretty much given up on the long puffer. I have purchased and returned more than I can think of. I thought I had it last week but returned that one today. I feel your pain, finding coats to fit our pear shapes is a trial to say the least. Many coats this year in the UK also seem to have very narrow arm holes which added to trying to fit my larger hips and smaller waist has made coat shopping veeeery depressing!!!!
I stumbled across the following coat when not looking, I was in an outdoors shop with BF and I got bored trailing round after him so wandered off mooching.

Before you open the following link it's expensive, double my budget, but it's a perfect fit, so I've decided to do without the knee high boots I was hoping to get. The puffer detailing is on the inside so from the outside it looks like a normal coat.

Thanks Louise! I'm grateful for any tip, even more so from a fellow pear! It is much, that's true and it is over my desired coat budget, but I'm prepared to go over it for the right coat, just like you were. I'm going to look it up, maybe it's available somewhere in a B&M store so that I can try it without the hassle of ordering online.

I found it at Peek & Cloppenburg, the brand is Dibari (I've never heard of it, but I haven't heard of most brands in Germany ). Because I bought it during summer it was on heavy discount, I paid €80 for it.

Okay, I found a big outdoor retailer that has the Marmot coat and asked them if it was available in their B&M store and they answered in the positive. The store is not that far from my place of work, so I'm going there next Tuesday to try it on.

Thanks Zap. Ideally it would be under 200€, but the Marmot coat above is just over 300€ and that would be okay too - if it's really the perfect coat. I can afford it, but it would mean buying no other clothing this year. And I plan to wear the coat I buy for some winters to come, so it has to be the right one. As a student I can't afford to spend that kind of money on an interim solution. And I'd prefer European sites, yes. Thanks for keeping an eye out for me!

Okay, I've tried on the Marmot coat today and it was warm and a great quality and I loved the color too - but the fit was off again. Too roomy on top and the waist was too low for me. That resulted in not so fab looking bagginess on top.
