Early fall wedding guest dress

I have (severely) sloping shoulders, and actually, this probably has a lot to do with my unholy, excessive attraction to puff sleeves: they counteract the slope...

I could see you really wearing this well, especially with amazing shoes and a strong lip color. I would think the sleeves might do a little visual trickery to broaden sloping shoulders? But not being a fan of puff sleeves on myself, I can't say I have much firsthand knowledge. Might be worth trying!

I could totally see you in this! Puffy sleeves hide all sorts of weird shoulder issues, so go for it. (Mine are not sloping so much as really round somehow, and I like that padded/puffed shoulders sharpen them up.)

Wow--it's pretty, and really cool looking. I think you would look great in it, Anna. I agree with Diana that the puffy sleeves should work really well. In fact, I would say broad shoulders are the one type that puffy sleeves often don't agree with.

This dress seems very Anna, but is it dressy enough for you? I think with the right accessories it would work. You'll have to try it to see what the shoulders look like on, I think. Hard to tell from a pic if they are huge or just a little puffy.

Very unusual, I really like it and it looks totally appropriate for you and for the occasions, I'm only surprised it's not more expensive so maybe better order sooner than later in case not enough design attention went to the fit?

Fun dress! I did have the thought, like Isabel, that with all that cutting and piecing, you'd need to check the fit and comfort carefully.

Rachylou, I remember when half the fun of going to the ballet was checking out the dresses at intermission. Things have changed...lots of jeans and nightclub wear, at least where I live. But I'll dress up if you will!

It's a striking dress. I think it's a winner for weddings, Ballet, even Opera unless you're heading to the Met as a major donor, member of the board, or movie star. In that case, you might need something more formal.

I think this dress has a nice Victorian aesthetic but also looks modern, which seems to be in keeping with what I have seen you wear. I love these colors for you. I would think the risk of trying it is low. Go for it!

Stasyfit, you are correct- I hold a Met subscription most years, though it's up in the nosebleeds. The only people who dress up are the rich people downstairs, or young people who don't come much and are doing it up. There is also dressing up for the galas, which I don't attend. I wear whatever I wore to my fairly casual workplace, including jeans! (Nicely dressed jeans, but still.)

What a wonderful dress, Anna! Can't wait to see it on you--the piecing is just right, and the fabrics are so fresh. I think you'll find that the ruching on the sleeves will allow you to manipulate the puff a bit, but I don't think you will find it a problem anyway. Sloping shoulders may benefit the most from an exaggerated sleeve, and you have the fashion sense to work that look.

Actually Bella, for the Seattle area, and Pacific Northwest and probably the entire West Coast of the USA, this is plenty dressy.
I was at the opera Saturday night wearing a Target dress. There were people, more than one in jeans. Also one pair of track pants.
Weddings here, I've learned that they're not worth over thinking.

I don't think the dress is too casual for a wedding, especially since it can be dressed up. The diagonal lines of the seams are flattering. Worth a try.
