E-book magazines?

Does anyone read magazines on an e-reader? I have a new Kindle and when I quickly looked into it on Amazon, I saw monthly subscriptions, but I just want to grab a mag when it catches my eye, like in the grocery aisle, but online. Any tips? A place to go. Maybe a fashion oriented resource? Ideally, I could look at old issues for free, but am interested in current ones by single issue as well at reasonable cost. Thanks for any help!

I have some that I get via Zinio. It's a standalone app for my ipad. You can also read them online, I think. They seem to send me discount and free codes every once in a while. They have most of the big fashion mags, and a pretty good selection of international mags too. (I mostly get cooking and knitting ones.)

So, for Kindle. I don't have an actual kindle, but I have the kindle apps for my ipad and laptop. I don't like that they don't have the option to view all the pages as thumbnails. Zinio (and ibooks on the ipad) both allow you to see the whole thing as thumbnails so you can skip to whatever page you want. I don't know if the actual kindle has this functionality. For regular print books it does not matter but for things like magazines and cookbooks with a lot of images and different articles/recipes I like to be able to see the whole thing at a glance.

Thx for the tip. I keep getting Great Britain zinio. Is that by default or is there no American site? (I'm such a newb with 'apps' and anything of the kind - I don't have, nor know how to use, a smartphone)

Well, I did get so far as to see the option at the bottom for USA lol.

Zinio definately has an american app. I have the canadian version on my playbook and phone. They frequently offer discount coupons. Yes you can buy by the issue.

Check out the website of your local library, mine lets you check out some fashion magazines for free. I download them and read them thru the zinio app. Not all magazines are available, and there are more British versions than American, but they're free.

I had a subscription to a (Canadian) decor mag that came with zinnio access as well. It didn't work at all for me, I can't remember the details but I thought it was pretty much a fail.

Weird, I get the US site by default. Zinio does have some quirks - some of the mags will only work with the app and not in the in-browser reader, but others are the exact opposite.

I dunno if you guys have this, but I have Next Issue - it is about $15/month and gets me access to the top 100 magazines in North America.

This won't help you, 'cuz I read magazines on Nook HD. But I thought I'd say I use the Nook HD for magazine reading, size being one factor and the other being that you can "clip" pages and save them to scrapbooks. Originally, I thought the iPad would be good for that, but I find it sucks for magazines.

I also look at online magazines from Issuu, but I do that on the computer. They are their own thing - not magazine-stand magazines. But some good eye candy. You may be able to see their PDF mags on the Kindle.

I've downloaded the zinio app because our library has access to a lot of mags using it. There is definitely a us version. It might be detecting your location incorrectly. I have also tried issuu. So far I am not sold on either. I would love to be able to subscribe to a few light magazines and not have to feel bad about recycling them once I've read them, but the cost still seems too high, even compared to the occasional impulse purchase at the store.
