Dye-ers - what brand do you recommend?

So it seems agreed that I need to dye my bright red jeans a darker blood red/burgundy colour (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-red-jeans). The fabric content is 99% cotton and 1% spandex.

What brand should I go for? And what would you recommend is the best method for the best results?

I'm a DIY dye'er newbie!

I've really liked Jacquard iDye, which is sold at the store Anna linked to. I just dyed a blazer orange using RIT, and I agree that it's pretty crappy.

Yeah, I have used RIT a lot, and it really is not that great. It doesn't last and it is really hard to keep it even.

With the Jacquard iDye, would it be OK to use the one for natural fibers even though there's a bit of spandex? I'm not sure what my label says, but I'm sure it's 1-3% spandex.

That's what I'm going to use pastrygirl - my jeans are 99% cotton and 1% spandex so I figure it's pretty much all natural fibers. Now I just have to find where I can get it here!

I wasn't sure if the spandex content would make it have a mottled effect. What color are you thinking of doing? A single one (crimson?) or a blend to get it even darker?

it says that with low % of spandex, you won't notice if it doesn't take the color.

Pastrygirl - just wanted to let you know I couldn't get the Jacquard iDye here so went to my local fabric store and they recommended Dylon to use in the stove top method. Found a great colour for me called Bordeaux so will be picking up a big ol' pot at my local Value Village and cooking me some dark red jeans this weekend!

I'll let you know how they turn out and what I think of the Dylon brand. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Can't wait to see! I'm worried about the stovetop method for my jeans, because they are tight already. There's a store about 30 minutes away that carries the Jacquard Procion DX dyes, so I'm going to try the tub method, which only need warm water rather than hot.
