Duplicate? Talbots ponte dress

I'm trying to decide if I should order this dress in black and possibly green. It's a nice weight ponte dress. Very simple and plain but i think it may be perfect for fall and winter layering. It does have a pesky under bust seam that I have to adjust regularly bc a misplaced bust seam is my top wardrobe pet peeve.

I'll keep this one because I do think it will definitely get some wear in the cooler months. It's on sale for around $45, if that matters to anyone.

Oh, I think I tried this on in green! It is a really nice dress. I returned because there was a lot of extra fabric in my back, but it looks great on you. A very nice basic - I support duplication.

Yes! This is the same dress you tried, Rae. Funnily enough your review that the green was rather evergreen was a selling point for me. We have very different coloring. This is the petite, and I'm not getting any weird back bunching.

When you find something you really like that looks that good on you, I think it's worth duplicating in other colours.

What do you mean about the bust seam? Adjusting regularly would be a deal-lkiller for me, although the dress looks fab.

You can't really see it in the pic but there's a seam just under the bust that runs all the way around. I have a huge aversion to seeing a bust seam creep up onto the bust at all, so I would have to tug it down if it creeps up from moving my arms and stuff. It's just a little tug, but I do wish the seam weren't there at all.

This is a versalite dress that can be style many ways. Yes, buy it in black as well (as long as the bust seam doesn't drive you bonkers...)

Perhaps, think about taking up the hem so it falls at the thinnest part of your knee. This would flatter your petite figure and give the dress a more youthful look.

I guess that would annoy me, having to tug on something all day. I've learned that no matter how much I love something, if I have to fiddle constantly, it's going to bug me. Only you know if you can put up with it!

I have done that fairly often, buying something I like in several colours. Once it was a top I bought in four different colours, and I wore them for years. They were textured polyester T-shirts that could be dressed up, dressed down... So if you really love it, go for it. This style is so simple, you don't have to worry about it looking dated quickly, and it will lend itself to so many different looks with accessories.

As for the bust seam, only you can tell if it's a deal-breaker or not.

I like it, and I like the longer length of it, too, even with the flat sandals. I think it gives it a modern, cool vibe.

I like it, and I'll bet the green would look fab on you! I have a mixed record on duplication: sometimes I have duplicated and been super-happy I did, other times not so much...If it works for you, then go for it.

I really like it too. I like the idea of the green one. If you want to make them look a bit different, you could shorten the length a little.

I really like the idea of shortening one of them and keeping another at the more midi length.

I'm realizing that part of my hesitation is that I'm not madly in love with the color of this one. Maybe I'll return it and get both the green and black? I don't think I can justify 3 of this dress, but one black (shortened) and one green (longer) seems reasonable.

Alright, we've convinced me. I'm pulling the trigger. Thanks for talking it through with me.

I love this color Tracy, and I think it works for you, but I know what is is to "like" something and not "love" it. I think your idea of green and black is great. Also, the darker the color, the less that annoying seam will be seen. The cut of the dress is wonderful on you.

I see you've already ordered the other colors, but thought I'd add that I think it looks great on you! It seems like a great price for such a classic dress. You will be able to wear them a ton of ways in the fall/winter!

I have this in black and it is a lovely dress, beautifully made, and such a nice fit. I think it would be a very different look in other colors. I would go for any of the colors that you absolutely love! Let the one go that just didn't grab you.

I just got the black and green dresses in the mail yesterday and I'm so glad I ordered them. I found the red dress to be a very nice dress and it's a color that fits well into my wardrobe, but the black and green ones make my heart pitter patter. I love them so much that I don't even think about the bust seam. Funny how that works, isn't it? Just like falling in love with a boy, all the flaws fade away.

I'm definitely going to take the forum advice and have the black one hemmed. The green one is very similar in cut and color to a lace BR dress I pinned on pinterest at the beginning of fall. Funny how these things come back around to you!

Thanks for the support and helping talk me through this decision. These two dresses are certainly going to be workhorses for me in the fall.
