Duo Boots, you need to be punished

for always making half of your boots overly flat, rugged and practical, and the other half mouthwatering yet too high for my daily life.

Agreed. I've only just figured out that my feet like heels, even for casualwear... I'm guessing it took so long to discover this because of the fact that there is no middle ground in heel height!

I'm so glad to hear it's not just my imagination!

When Talbots (TALBOTS, of all places!), started selling their high heels in the 4" range, I knew I was doomed. I have feet of iron, but 4" are just not practical.

Wow, those are really nice boots. I mean, now i lust for them. But maybe if you tried them on, they could be ok, 9.5cm with maybe 2cm of platform could make a decent wedge.

Thanks for all your replies ladies I should totally feedback Duo about it, but I've got a feeling they are just responding to what Angie points out - this phenomenon is everywhere.

Anya I know they "could" work. But I know what my feet like and it's amazing the difference a centimetre makes. I think I could wear these but they wouldn't be go-tos.

It frustrates me that there is no middle ground (except in our wonderful comfort shoe lines like Dansko and Naot).

BTW I'm sorry I took so long to reply back to my own post lol - it's not like I haven't been here - does anyone else get forum stagefright, where they feel under the spotlight after the exhilaration of starting a conversation wears off and they face the daunting task of responding in a coherent fashion? I think I do this a lot online. Then I think "oh those people must think how rude she is, asks a question then doesn't bother noticing when we answer..." Maybe it's part of why I gravitate to forums in the first place - it's socialising that introverts can cope with. Sometimes

Fruitful, I'm new to the online forum thing, so I understand what you're saying about being forum stage fright -- or, at least, I somewhat understand. I'm not an introvert at all, and I seem to have no problem rambling on either in real life or in print (!!), but I'm often hesitant to answer because it's so easy to have your tone misinterpreted. Or at least I feel like I come off sounding somehow different than I do IRL, with a tone I don't intend. I try to write exactly as I speak (editing only for off-colour language), and I since I don't want to sound sycophantic or insincere, I think that sometimes I overcompensate and come off as too flippant.

There's a whole etiquette to forum posts and replies, and I'm still climbing the learning curve. The first time I posted a question, it was in the comments section of Angie's blog, and I cringed when I realized how inappropriate that was. I hadn't even realized there is a forum that exists for just that purpose!

Hi Elisabeth, yes there is a whole 'nother etiquette online, and I think the absence of tone makes for 2 possibilities (both with problems!). One is to overcompensate with friendliness, politeness, and deference, which I see on a lot of female-dominated boards. The other option is to assume we are all big enough to take a message for its content and not read intent into it. I see this more on male-dominated boards. As you noted, sycophantism and insincerity is a pitfall of the first, while sounding callous and adversarial can be a problem the other way! An advantage of the first is feeling safe and cared for, but it can be at the expense of frankness (and more importantly, humour!)

I find online behaviour fascinating and each forum I visit is like a little ethnographic study Like any community, working out the (tacit) rules is part of the experience.

And yes, it makes me cautious about what I post. So I don't want to write something involved when I'm tired (which is, like, all the time).

There you go, I derailed my own thread! Breaking my own forum etiquette.
