Duffle coat - YouLookFab Forum

Dear Fabbers,

I was browsing through Angie’s links in her Trend Report and I saw that Rag & Bone showed a camel duffle coat (see picture). Made me happy, because I have a very similar one from British Gloverall (the second picture) and I recently bought a shorter version in dark grey. Now I really look forward to wearing them.

I love the way it is styled in the Rag & Bone picture with the leather pants, animal sneakers and black scarf. I have never thought of duffle coats as particularly modern or trendy, rather as timeless classics, classically styled with checked wool scarves and casual boots etc. But the styling in this picture is so modern and cool.

Are there any duffle coat fans out there? What kind of duffle coats do you wear and how do you style them?

I have a Gloverall duffle in navy. I’ve had it 19 years! I just wear it with whatever, when it’s cold. I really love it.

I love duffle coats especially red ones!but I have to avoid as I risk looking like Paddington in one.This longer line camel one is much more edgy,you ll look fab in it.

We are camel Gloverall twins!

I’ve always had a Gloverall duffle coat in my closet since the 60s—mostly camel, but with a brief foray into navy (80s) and red (90s). All have been worn with a uniform: sweater, pants/jeans, and heeled boots (Fryes mostly). Oddly enough for a scarf lover, I rarely wear one with my Gloverall; I prefer polo neck sweaters or a thin turtleneck worn under a shirt or crewneck seater. And I always carry my stuff in a leather cross-body bag or a sleek backpack—satchel bags look too lady-like for striding over hills!

Since it’s hard to wear out a Gloverall, my vintage ones are taken away by younger family members or friends who love the RATE appearance of a well-used duffle.

Love duffle coats! My grandmother gave me an olive green one from J Crew 15 years ago. I had it re-lined last winter and am looking forward to wearing it again!

I love my duffel coat from Lands End that I bought in 2013. Bought it for our trip to Ireland..here we are at Trinity College Dublin. This coat is quite heavy and I would call it a great buy.

I love duffles too and in camel is classic. I looked at the Pendleton web site yesterday and they had a lovely duffle coat and was thinking it could be a super investment.

I love a good duffel coat (toggles, toggles.....always a fan)! Your long camel one is gorgeous. I always think of them as classic, too. It is fun to see them styled with some sassy fashion.

i love a duffle coat....i have a black one that i bought during a "OMG is winter ever going to be over" moment a couple of years ago...should have held out for a camel one

I have a bright blue one from Lands End. I love the color but it just isn't as comfortable as I would like and I tend to reach for my black down puffer all winter. Another downside for me are the pockets, they are very shallow. Perhaps I'll try it again this winter as in theory I really like it !

Yes I am a big fan of duffle coats, they are such an iconic style. My problem is that my climate is not cold enough for them. I have had two previously and passed them on because my window for wearing a duffle coat is too short.

I have this Boden version in navy although I love the green in the find too. It is a winter coat for the office for me. Does attract a bit of pet hair. I like that the pockets open both horizontally and vertically.

I haven't owned a duffle coat for decades, but I like them and will happily wear one again if the right one comes my way. I agree that the styling in your first pic looks fresh and modern. (However, the model's position looks rather akward. ).

I imagine that your camel and grey duffle coats would also look great styled with items like:
● checked trousers
● blue-red trousers
● straight skirt in leather or suede
● bright hosiery
● loafer sneakers
● wine booties in leather or suede
● turtleneck pullover
● small knitted hat
● gloves in a fun colour like hot turquoise
● long winter scarf in multiple colours

My mother wore one over turtlenecks ( and one evil cowlneck ) with flared slacks and jeans

Gaylene, how fun. And interesting about the scarves - but I understand, turtleneck is such a classic under a duffle. Your duffle coats and styling sound wonderful.

Gail, I understand. The fact is that puffers are more comfortable, and often warmer. But duffles are sweet! I hope you give your bright blue a new chance.

Bijou, I get it. Where I live, duffle works most of the winter days, but when it gets really cold, it is almost not warm enough. We have very different conditions.
