Dry Clean polyester pant? and some trial WIW

Last year I experimented with different colors--lockdown sales made it tempting. I bought a couple of things in brown, a color I have avoided for ages. This year I have a yearning for more brown and camel shades.

I bought a pair of Calvin Klein trousers at Macy's in a color called heather taupe. I wanted them to wear with a BR dark blue blazer I have to recreate one of Angie's posts with blue and medium brown. The pants are much longer on me than on the model. Maybe she's over 6 ft. tall. These are all synthetics. See label below. But on the back side of the label it says Dry Clean.

These aren't expensive pants and I just want to wash them when necessary. What do you say?

I threw on some brown-shade items. My Patagonia jacket with is a bit rumpled, with my new BR suede bag and my new Olukai sneakers which I bought because I saw them on some of you. Apparently only the denim blue is available in the bag. Color shown in photos,

Are these pants too long or is this okay. I don't think this is a good combination, just an experiment, and I will wear different shoes, mostly flat ones.

#3 is a pair of cotton BR pants I bought--they fit well and I like them.

#5 is picking him up from the hospital outfit worn yesterday. New LL Bean quilted jacket, the BR silk & rayon sweater, jeans, and a BR scarf, Ecco shoes. The LL Bean is heather something.

Right now I think it would be better to limit the camel colors to my bottom half and possibly a cardigan.

I bought some new sheets on sale at Macy's and with all the money I saved I bought two cashmere cardigans, one in camel and one in animal print. I'm way behind on Finds and I haven't taken many photos lately.

Life is very busy right now. DH had surgery 2 days ago and it was a long process to prepare. His 4-day stay at the hospital in August (missing our family vacation) resulted from a berserk parathyroid gland. Surgery went well, but they kept him overnight. He had part of his thyroid removed when he was in his early 30s and with additional complications they were very cautious. Normally a 20 minute outpatient procedure lasted more than 2 hours.

Giving me a break for being frazzled, what advice can you give me about camel and heather brown. Should I have stuck just with the $8 brown henley I bought at Macys a year ago?

You look great in all pictures - nice color combinations!
Glad DH is back home - hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery ( as much as possible in nowadays ).
Regarding pants - rayon considered semi synthetic ( starts with wood pulp ) so it can be shrinking a bit in the washing/drying machine. Maybe first time - dry clean, then cold delicate wash with flat surface drying?

I wore pants like those all the time when working, machine washed, and dried on medium heat cycle. They were fine. If you prefer hanging to dry, it still helps to tumble them in the dryer a few minutes to make sure they’re wrinkle free.

You look fab. Would definitely wash those at home on delicate. I was most things at home these days except blazers and coats.

I do wash lots of rayon items, slim cat. I know there are some kinds of rayon that shouldn't be washed. And of course, many brands sell washable wool items, including BR.

When cleaning is needed for these, I'm inclined to take a chance. I just wonder if anyone has experience with these or similar.

I don’t dry clean anything. I am trying to think of the last time. Maybe my Thai silk outfit that I bought in 1988 was dry cleaned back in the mists of time? And I hardly hand wash anything either, mostly such things as say they need that get machine washed in a wool cycle or a delicate cycle. I would try it on delicate.

Regarding the dry clean items, I have both read and found for myself that if a tag says "dry clean only", then the item should truly be dry-cleaned. However, if the word "only" is missing, it is almost always fine to wash it in a delicate manner, and hang dry.

Sending good vibes to your husband! You look wonderful even with all you are dealing with. The pants are really nice. I mistakenly washed a “dry clean only” polyester blouse last week and it looks perfectly fine. Delicate cycle and hang dry. I think you’d be ok doing the same.

Before you wash, test an inside seam with water to make sure that the fabric is colorfast. Also if you decide to wash, maybe the 1st time I’d wash it with an old white tee shirt to see if it bleeds…you don’t want to ruin the rest of the load.

I was going to wash these pants in cold water on the delicate cycle, but after reading what Tanya said, they're going to the dry cleaners. They are dry clean only and I ruined a really nice dry clean only top last year by washing it on the delicate cycle. Sending healing vibes and wishes for a speedy recovery to your husband!

My dry cleaner scolded me for hand washing my button-front linen blouse, so when it needed cleaning on our recent trip, I asked family if the one-hour cleaner was still in operation, because I wanted to wear it to a Monday meeting. My sister offered to drop it off Friday morning. She informed me on Sunday that it would be ready Tuesday afternoon, the day before our departure, and that their laundry people had said dry cleaning turns white things yellow, so they were laundering it. Small potatoes, but there was much gnashing of teeth over it. Anyway, even laundry pros can disagree on the best way to treat an item with a “dry clean” care label.

Glad to hear the mysterious cause of your husband’s troubles has been identified and dealt with! You look great on your way to pick him up, and in #2 as well. How amazing that you can think about these things during such stressful times.

I think you'll need to do a cost benefit analysis here - how upset would you be if you machine washed the trousers on a delicate cycle, only to have them shrink/ become shiny or otherwise unwearable?

PS - I like your teal top (is it teal?) in #2 & your gold sandals in #3. Both look comfy!

I machine wash everything with care, that is using appropriate cycles and a laundry bag when necessary. The only item that has been negatively impacted is a wool turtleneck that shrunk a bit.

The pants look great, but I wouldn't dry clean and also wash. I've had things shrink if I've done both.

I hand wash all my polyester dresses, jackets and pants and have never had an issue with them. Viscose is more problematic, because it crushes horribly and the fibres weaken with washing. For that reason, I rarely buy anything in viscose.
