Dressy Shorts

Hi all!
So I purchased these lovely Bermuda shorts from Nordstrom; they've arrived and they are dressier than I realized. They are great -- very nice woven material, beautifully cut, not-see through (although I'd love some confirmation on that!). But I'm trying to figure out when I would wear them. I keep thinking if something is dressy enough for these shorts, I would probably want a dress instead? (although dresses are hard for me to find for sure).

Do you own dressy shorts? Do you wear them a lot? What kinds of events? What kind of weather do you have where you live?

Back in the day, I would wear these to work with a matching jacket A younger me would wear them today for work in the summer with a more modern cut of jacket (see website above) and block heeled sandals for work.

These are great. They’re the only shorts I’ll wear in “public”, on the street, and at work. (I’ll wear shorter ones at the park/beach.)

I really like a wedge heel or block heel with them. Loafers would be great.
Refined flip flops would work.

Leather white sneakers might work, but I’m not sure.

For tops, you could do any sleeveless one.

I’ve eyed these. I think they look pretty versatile, but you’d need to decide what you prefer when you want to look dressier. Did you need to size up in them, and also, do they run pretty slim through the leg, or looser?

I used to wear dressy shorts out to dinner, to parties, etc. I was in my 20s and this was in Houston, TX, so very hot and humid. I would wear nice tops and cute low heeled sandals with them.

These are lovely shorts,but then I m biased as I own 2pairs like this .I find them really versatile in the summer months,can be dressed up ordown and are never inappropriate like shorter shorts can sometimes be.They look very nice with wedges or flats and I like to wear a more fluid top with them to contrast with the slim cut if the leg.A camisole with kimono style topper is also a nice look.Hope you enjoy wearing them.

i'd wear these for times when i wanted to look nice but not formal, like dinner out with friends...

I do not own dressy shorts but I've been looking for the right pair for me for years. *sigh*
If I had a pair, I would wear them a lot and depending on your lifestyle and style, in general, you'd be surprised at how much you can wear them. Personally, I'd wear them socially. Like kkards said above, nice but not formal.

They are good shorts! Looks like they will be a good find. I don't wear smart shorts, but I think I would wear them socially too and not for formal wear.

Lisap - I really like the idea of wearing a blazer with these shorts. It might be a good solution for an event where the weather is milder or might cool off and I don't want to wear pants or a dress with jacket/sweater (which I never seem to get to look right).

Smittie - great idea to wear wedges with these. I have a couple of pairs which haven't been getting a lot of wear.

delurked - so I think these are pretty TTS. I am usually between sizes so I went up in size in the white ones and down in size for the black ones with predictable outcome; I think I may order the smaller size in the white to see if it might work. Yes, pretty slim through the leg. They have just a touch of "sheen" so they look very polished.

For those of you playing along at home: the size 8 measures 15.5" across the waistband, the hips are about 20" and the rise is 9.5"

These look so nice - I think they would look great with a bit of a heel or wedge, as Smittie suggests.
