Dressy dresses arrived... is either a keeper?

Here are the two dresses I ordered from the Rack to try for TIFF events. Both are Alice & Olivia. Remarkably, both fit. The red is a beaded crinkled layered silk, and is what I consider a true Indian red. It's delicate enough that I would probably ruin it eventually, but it is a great choice for my sister's film because it combines East and West. It is short - am I too old to pull it off? What about with the leather leggings? What color wrap would work, or could I use a sheer chiffon dupatta?

The blue also fits, which stuns me. I will need a bra for it, and I'm not sure if the one-shoulder look is flattering. Also my tan line makes it look obscene when in reality there is not a hint of cleavage. I'm covering it in the last pic!

Honest thoughts welcome - keep or return either or both? We have a Rack opening here next week! So I could return right here in town. Sorry to be a forum hog tonight - I finally had some time to deal with all of this!

I absolutely LOVE red on you...I think #1 looks beautiful... I like this one without the leggings and the length doesn't seem short at all,how do you feel about no leggings with it?

I'm totally okay with bare legs, but I know there's been some discussion of knees and I'm just shy of 50... What style and color shoes? I have black and nude Ollies which are the Rockstud ripoffs...

Love both dresses, love your legs in #1: please lose the leggings! IMHO the blue has a slight edge (use theatrical body make-up to mask your tan line? can you skip the bra? wear a more comfortable lace bandeau?) -- isn't this blue the color direction that's been interesting you? And the nude Rockstuds would look super with it, too.

Although the color of the first dress is fantastic, as well as the fabric, I'm not crazy about the neckline on you. I prefer the second dress due to its more open neckline.

And I like these with and without leggings.

Wow! I think you look great in both, but I have a slight preference for the blue. I would hunt for a bandeau bra or go without. It's elegant, and I love the color. In the blue dress my focus is on you and your face, in the red I think my Focus is pulled more to the dress. i'm not bothered by your tan line, and I know nothing about body makeup. My neighbor apparently uses it to cover her varicose veins and I can't tell. It either works well or I need new prescription lenses because her legs look flawless. You may need to experiment and find the right brand, color match, etc.

I like both dresses but no leggings. I am 60 in a few weeks and show my knees all the time. And a few inches above my knees sometimes.

Ignore the knee thing Una. Your legs look great and if you are comfortable in the shorter length then wear it.

I have a slight preference for the first one. The color looks like it was made for you. The blue is lovely too. I like the bare leg look best.

I prefer the red ... Color is perfect on you and it has the Indian vibe you were looking for. I'm sure a dupatta would work for a wrap, but it wouldn't be very warm.

Both dresses look fabulous on you. I am sensitive to the knee issue and it is a nonissue for you. You don't need anything on your legs. I have a preference for the red dress and think you would feel most comfortable in it. Can you use both?

I love the color of the first one on you, but I like the more open neckline of the second dress. And definitely without the leggings! You have great legs.

I think they both look great on you. The red seems more special, and you wear that color brilliantly. The blue is nice but not as special. Nothing wrong with your tanline that a little self-tanner can't correct. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with this length on you. Your knees are fine and this length is a really nice proportion on you. I prefer them both without the leggings, but if you were wearing sleek, black, heeled booties with the leggings, that might change my opinion.

P.S. You want a really embarrassing tanline? My legs look ridiculous. I was already cultivating a bad cycling shorts tan, and then a solid week of bike shorts in Iowa made it even worse. I can't wear my regular length shorts in public without looking totally silly! At this rate, it will be February before the line fades.

They both look great. I have a slight preference for the blue one but I do think the red is more East meets West. I don't care for the leggings with the red dress - bare is good! But I do think the blue dress could work bare or with leggings. Don't worry about the knee thing. YLF!

Keep both. Red without leggings and a sexy shoe or caged sandal would be just the ticket for PM. Love the blue with leggings. Great date night look.

You can rock either one, but even though the blue shoulder design is unusual and fun, the lines of the red dress fit you better and it is just more stunning overall, yes, likely the pop of color but it just works great.
You do not have any knee issues, no worries, but there is something about the leggings that looks very grown up-edgy, to me. I would love to see that styled with your dressy footwear options which I think would make the leggings look more intentional and dressy.

Love the red - it's edgier with the leggings. Love how the leggings tie your beautiful hair into the outfit.

I'm torn . I like the red one for colour and the blue one for style. The shade of blue is also really interesting ....

I would not wear the leggings - I'd go bare legged and own it. Add some really beautiful Indian jewellery, sexy shoes, and you're good to go. I doubt you'll need an evening wrap anyways so I wouldn't worry about that part or invest in anything really expensive.

Thanks all! Yes, shoes will make a difference! What color footwear? I agree the red neckline is not ideal, but the opportunity for one shoulder items is not high for me in my normal climate. Plus I feel weirdly exposed in the blue, although my thought was that it mimics a sari shape.

The leggings are in case it is colder than expected.

Suggestions for toppers/clutch/shoes welcome - am going to post some options...

Well, it seems like you can stop looking because both dresses have their fans--with and without the option of leather leggings. Which dress hits the mark in YOUR opinion?

And, just for the record, I'll admit to a slight leaning towards the blue because (1) I love that shade of blue with your silver hair and (2) I think showing off your gorgeous, rock-climbing shoulders and wearing your leather leggings on the red carpet manages to capture the nuance of Indian style while keeping the overall look purely Una. The red is lovely, though, and, perhaps in a srtictly aesthetic sense, might be the better option, because it adheres to more a more traditional red carpet look, especially if you wore it without the leggings. But you'd do your sister proud in either dress because you've got two winners here.

These are both gorgeous! Wow. I love the red on you and agree it has a terrific east/west vibe to it. As a rule, I do prefer you in a more open neckline, but this works to my eye. I like it best without leggings (but think it will work with leggings also if you must) and I think either shoe you propose will work great. I feel a slight preference, for black for the bookending possibilities -- but it's hard to say for sure without seeing them on.

Also, your knees are ABSOLUTELY not an issue. You have fantastic legs, so no worries.

I also really like the blue and would probably go with the nude shoe for that one -- but again, hard to say without seeing.
