Dressy Dinner Options - YouLookFab Forum

Planning what to pack for the 7-night Caribbean cruise my husband and I are taking with my siblings in a couple of weeks. We’re really not cruise people, as it’s just not the way we prefer to travel, but agreed to keep open minds and have fun since the intent is to be with family. There are two dressy evenings when women may wear anything from gowns to “designer jeans.” Here are 3 options — I need to pick 2.

Disclaimers: I’m not great at taking my own photos, and tried to hastily put my hair in a bun since I did not have time to wash and dry today. Oh, and I would not ideally wear these sandals, but but I’m not sure I want to pack a pair of dressy heels for 2 nights only. Hmmm. Will also carry a small sequin clutch to further reinforce dressiness.

1 & 2. Black satiny blouse with black ATL pants. Tucked or untucked? I may rethink the large hoop earrings as not dressy enough.

3 & 6. Navy ruched Halogen top, untucked. It’s kind of a mesh-like fabric. Tags still on.

4 & 5. Bright pink top picked up years ago on an Anthropologie sale.

I welcome your comments and suggestions for improvement. Will post a few things for more casual nights separately.

Oh! I’m going to need some type of sweater or wrap to have on hand. Any ideas on color and style?

All of the outfits look great, so you can go wrong. My order of preference is black top (tucked in) first, navy second, pink third. If you have, I would go for some metallic sandals that would work both for evening and day worn casually.

Wow - you look great ! I’d actually go for the pink top as it has a bit of a tropical vacation vibe to my eye . Then you could dress it down by wearing it with a light olive green cargo , jogger or wide leg pant. Agree with Tanya that a metallic sandal / slide /mule would be a great addition .

Kyle, I like you in a collared shirt/blouse or higher neckline best! Sooooo PINK from this selection!

Pink is STUNNING with the pearls - but impossible to layer over unless it's a ruana of sorts.

I like #1 with metallic or non-black footwear - good call, Tanya! Add the necklace of the pink outfit, if you leave off the earrings. Much easier layering options.

I'd like to see the blue mesh top from the front, when you have a moment. Looks like a great fit! But am unsure about the V-neck...

My favorites are outfits with navy and pink tops, although it’s hard to choose, you look great in all of them. A big scarf might be useful if it’s a bit chilly. Dark purple color would look great with both tops.

Well you look very glamorous in all of these!l love your up do too and the big hoop earrings.l think it’s probably down to what you feel most comfy in ,l don’t think that you can go wrong with any of these.The pink is probably the most dressy.

You look beautiful in every one of these. I agree about some metallic sandals. But my favourite tops are the pink and the navy. You are going to WOW the crowd. Elegant and easy for the win!

You look so elegant. I really like the idea of wearing a darker top one evening and the pink the next - as they really look different to each other. The navy and black are a bit too similar to really be noticeable that you are not wearing the same outfit.

My first reaction was to go with the pink, but my question was if whatever you choose has to be worn several times in different ways during your trip? In that case, I would go with whatever mixes best with your other pieces.

The updo is great! I like the black top and the pink top best. I agree with other comments that metallic sandals would be ideal, but you could go with those if you can’t stand to bring more shoes. Maybe amp up the earrings if you have something sparkly and dangly.

You look gorgeous in all of these. Angie makes such great observations, which I wouldn't have noticed, but can see once she points them out. I love the pink on you and agree with Lisa that the tropical feel is nice for this occasion, too. Your up-do adds a lot of glamour to these looks. Maybe a pair of shorter, sparkly earrings to sub for the hoops?

These all look great to me. I tend to the pink and the black, but I think they all work. I do agree that metallic sandals would be great- I purchased this pair 14 months ago and whilst not of a trending style, they fit that need of the evening but practical sandal (if we dine out, we often walk 1-2km to get to the restaurant) so they definitely filled a wardrobe hole!

Last night I ordered these sling backs in silver. I need something comfortable and versatile, and I’m really hoping they work out! I do think I will be able to wear them in many ways beyond this one-week trip and feel they can adapt to dressing up or something a bit more casual. Now I want a silver crossbody or clutch, but I don’t want anything that’s conventional “evening bag” style.

LJP, I like the pink, too, even though it’s not conventionally flattering due to its super cropped length. And I know many would not pair it with black, either!

Angie, I just remembered that I already have a large, warm scarf that is kind of like a ruana with this pink, black, turquoise, small bits of yellow and some white in it. So that’s getting packed. Why buy something else new? It’s fun to post again. This trip is the first time I’ve really had to think much about dressing in awhile, and I have missed it so much. I’ve had enough comfy sweat pants to last a lifetime. Have spent a lot of time shopping and adding some new things lately. I hope I made good selections. I’m rusty, so the photos and forum comments help a lot!

April, I’m still deciding if I am going for efficiency or variety in my outfit selection. I usually choose efficiency, but I might change it up this trip so I can have a bit more fun with fashion.
