dressing with ostomy for 65+ women

I need advice on dressing with ostomy. I am a 67 year old woman with a recent ostomy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Are you on Pinterest? I wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and was looking on Pinterest recently for gear - and there’s a lot there for ostomy gear too. Covers, belts. Here’s a pic of one that I thought looked pretty and functional. There are ones with a thin belt that feel less secure to me. The pouch sticks out from the belt. This style covers the edges of the pouch and holds them down. Makes it harder to knock the gear around. I think it would make for a smoother line under clothes as well.

I'm afraid I don't have specific advice for you, but I can imagine that adjusting to life with an ostomy must have its challenges.

I am relatively new here, but have seen posters on this forum, like rachylou, who do live with medical devices that require some adaptation and creative approaches to dressing. I think you will find inspiration and support here from people with similar lived experiences.

I haven't dressed a client with an ostomy yet - only glucose monitors. Rachy, makes an excellent suggestion.

I had had an ostomy bag for 13 years. I like high waisted underwear and tuck the bag into it. I empty frequently because I hate any kind of bulge.
I try to avoid anything to tight- because it makes me leak.
I like tankinis and have even worn high waisted bikini bottoms.
The only difference I find is work out tops need to be a little longer so they don't come up.
Good luck- I am 51 and live a very happy active sporty lifestyle. Don't let it get you down.

Out of curiosity, molly, does real denim - heavy and stiff - give you any problems? It tortures me and my digestive system...

Not particularly- If something is heavy and pulls down it might- but a belt would help relieve tension.
