dressing up and footwear ?

To me it always seems dressier to wear pumps, dressier flats or some sort of shoes as opposed to boots or booties with dressier clothes like going to a more dress up party. now with all the dressier booties, like silver, gold, velvet etc. I think one could be just as dressy wearing them. What do you think?

You are dead right. Dressy booties are hard to find. Patent and refined with a heel is one way to go.

I agree with you about footwear, mostly I wear shoes, as Angie said, it is difficult to find dressy booties.

I think the right ankle or tall boots can be quite dressy especially in a refined style or with metallic, patent, brocade etc...

Hmm, I hadn't thought about it, but you are right. There are not very many booties and boots that would look as dressy as a pump--though there are some. The Cole Haan OTK boots are an example of a dressy boot. But even so, I think that metallic or velvet booties might be even dressier.

I have some pointed toe, sleek black booties with a low heel and v front that I wear with all but the most formal ensembles in the winter. They work well for me. For less formal but still dressy events in cold weather I often wear my flat OTK boots (which are fairly sleek w/gold hardware). It's pretty common around here to wear booties and boots to things like cocktail receptions and the like. So many people commute via foot/public transit in the city and pumps or the like are not practical.

I've seen some booties this fall that would be fabulously dressy, part of the maximal trend. Velvets and brocades, all-over embroidery and patterned. This is probably the only way I could see myself wearing them, as part of a dressy-dress ensemble.

Depending on where you are geographically, socially, and so on, even the very dressiest boots might not be a viable option for some events.

But as Bennett says, some of the brocades etc could work just fine in other places.

I think they can be found and worn. Most events I attend,are in homes so you either remove your shoes or boots anyway.

The only heels I can wear that don't kill my fussy feet are chunky platforms (Dansko). I have a follow-up visit with the neurologist on December 15, and hope he'll be able to tell me what's causing the sharp pains that shoot into my toes or up through the bottoms of my feet.

It really depends on the outfit I think you can dress up booties just as much as stilettos and I wear a variety of all of them in between.
