Dressing Down a Chanel Style Cardigan

I've had this Uniqlo Chanel style striped cardigan for a while, and for me, I mostly saw it as a dressier item. I was now eager to find more casual ways of wearing it for my everyday life. While scanning Pinterest for a little inspiration, I saw this style of cardigan combined with some light-wash straight-leg jeans and converse sneakers and BINGO!! I can do that!

In my version, I went with cropped Levi's 501s and my Skecher Bob's sneakers, and I prefer wearing the cardigan open.

It hadn't occurred to me to style this type of cardigan in such a simple and casual manner, but it's easy to get caught in a styling rut with some clothing items. Does anyone else find that to be true?

Nice, Dee! I think styling it casually is not only more practical for your life but also probably more true to your overall style, much less stuffy!

I'm not sure if I get caught up in styling items in a very specific way...but that might be because almost all my clothing is casual to begin with, ha! Of course that's not completely true -- I do have some tops that are specificallyl dressy. But not a lot else....

Looks fantastic! Hope you will be inspired by your success to experiment with other jeans and denim skirts paired with this cardigan.
If I had a cardigan like that, I would only wear it with denim, in a casual way to create a juxtaposition in an outfit.

I'd wear the cardigan with white jeans or red pants, buttoned up, and with loafers or sneakers.

That's a great outfit, and one I'd be likely to wear any day, too.

I often fall into a style rut with specific items. One that I was thinking about today is "travel pants." I have some pants--and matching jackets, and dresses--out of knit fabric that travels well, and I tend to think of these clothes as travel clothes, period. I find myself reserving them just for trips. Isn't that kind of amusing?

Great adaptation. I have been slowly restyling my work wardrobe. A couple of years ago I saw Chanel style jackets pop up on the Veronica Beard site styled with jeans, and ever since have been getting some unexpected wear out of mine with my current jeans. Next in the queue, a couple of twin sets! I haven’t touched them in years.

Suz- You’re absolutely right, this is much more me styled this way, it definitely felt a little too stuffy before.
Irina- Yep, I am taking inspiration from this and will pair it with my denim skirts and other jeans. However, I am going to pay particular attention to the denim’s wash because combining this style of cardigan with dark denim just makes it too formal for me.
Angie- Your version sounds just perfect for you.
Firecracker(Sharan)- Oh I know, once a clothing item gets a label like “travel pants” its hard to see them any other way.
Cat2- Great to hear that your jacket and jeans have found more use for you when you restyled them, now onto the twinsets.

Your version looks great! I am more likely to style a piece with its opposite than otherwise - my solution to almost anything a bit out there is to pair it with jeans .

I love this Dee and I personally would only wear it casually. Looks totally fab with your jeans. I used to get stuck in a rut with certain items when I was still working but not any more.

Jaime- I agree, it’s amazing how jeans work so well with many other styles.
Star- Yes, when I was working my work clothes stayed mostly segregated from the rest of wardrobe, my head couldn’t seem to get around wearing them on my time off.

Olive Green- Haha, I had to look up the word louche, I’m guessing its about my pose, but it was the only way to get everything in photo.

Dee, yes to the styling rut. I'm good at mixing high and low but I tend to wear the same combinations and not change them up.

A couple winters ago, Anchie posed a challenge to wear new combinations of things you already owned for a month. Might be worth revisiting, though I can't seem to link to it.

Love your rendition! And yess, our era is all about casualising former dressy items, and so, why not? I don't see a problem anymore... I wear for ex my pleated midi skirts with chunky flatform loafers almost exclusively now...and with denim or barn jackets.

Beautiful outfit Dee! I love striped cardigan and have two which I wear with pleasure. For me they are very versatile, can be dressed up or dressed down.
