Dresses Styled: Can't Decide! EDIT: Toppers and Such

First of all, dresses never fit me off the rack! Never ever! And on the rare occasion when they do, they are too short. Well, this weekend I found not one, but two that fit perfectly and are at a length I like. And at a store where I rarely ever shop (maybe I should go there more often!). These are from Talbots, I popped in to take a look at some side zip ankle pants and walked out with the pants and these two dresses. I just couldn't decide in the store so I thought I'd bring them home and style them a bit.

Dress #1 - no belt, no pockets, dress #2 - belt and pockets.

DH isn't much help, he likes them both. What say you?

EDIT: Playing in my closet, red denim jacket for the Monet floral, and how I might wear the black dress before/after summer. With the black dress, I put on black ankle strap flats, but it might also work/work better with black booties or the same black pumps in the previous photo. Any styling suggestions for either dress?

I like them both on you but if you only have room for one of them, I would pick #2. I have a preference for those colors on you, they are flattering and more Spring-like.

I like #1 better bit both look good on you.

I still like 1 better but if I hadn't seen the first one, I'd be saying how nice the 2nd one is.
I also like that between the fit and the prints there's really not much need for a lot of styling, although you did a great job with both.
They look easy to wear and you look just as pretty in both.
Is it my imagination or are you slightly happier in 2?

Karie it's a no brainer for me! I adore #1. I think the darker tones are very striking and the dress is just lovely and could be dressed up or down:) The darker tones contrast beautifully with your light skin and hair. The second dress is 'nice' but I find the colours a little too pale and a bit bland.

Celia, I might have a slight preference for #1, but I'm not even sure of that at this point. I'd love to keep both just because I know how hard it is to find dresses that fit off the rack, but do I really need two dresses of the same style...no, I don't

I say keep them both but if you have to choose only 1 then keep #1. The colors look great on you.

Karie, if absolutely forced to pick, I would choose #1 over #2, since it is more striking with your colouring. But you look GREAT in both (and if it were me, I'd be looking for a reason/excuse to keep both - lol).

Does it help if you ask yourself which one you'd be more sorry to see go back to the store?

Love the first one! I saw it in the store today and thought the dress was pretty but it looks even better on a live person. I agree, it doesn't need a lot of accessories. It's a keeper, in my view.

I would keep both. I also have a very hard time finding dresses that fit and are a good length ( long enough!). The colors are so different, I can see the softer toned one now in spring especially and all through summer as well. The darker one could work in practically all seasons. Lucky you! You look sensational in both plus DH loves both- I think you have your answer:-)

The first one is gorgeous and striking on you. The second one isn't bad, but the first one makes me say WOW, while the I find the second one just nice.

I like both dresses on you but my favorite is number 1. The colors are different from what I have seen you wear and they really compliment you.
Number 2 is more in your usual color range.

Ruth, I've been thinking a lot about your question - it's a great one - and so far my answer is "both!" So I went to my closet to see what I could wear these with.

Tina, I do have SUCH a hard time with dresses. Last year I had a parade of dresses coming and going from my house, I had the hardest time finding one that fit right and was long enough. I needed a dress for a casual wedding last year. This year I don't "need" a dress at all and I've found two!

Shannon, I adore that dark background in #1. I think I might be able to style it for colder weather as I have seen you do with such expertise! I hope what I tried to do works.

Both look fab on you and congrats on finding two perfect fit dresses. I love number 1 and how you styled it for the fall. Keep both if you can but I think 1 is more versatile for spanning seasons - could also be my eye does like darker colors, but really the dark color is really fab with your hair and skintone.

Just wondering: does the red jacket also go with #1? Because #2 looks great with the jacket, and now I like them both! (Strongly preferred #1 the first time around.) If forced to choose I'd still pick dress #1, but I do see the summery charms of #2.

Although #2 looks good, I prefer #1. This could be because I love black. It says "wow", whereas the second one says "nice".

Nope. Sorry. The Monet totally shines with the red jacket. Way way prefer the Monet.

Actually, the black would prob look good with the red jacket too.

# 1 is fab!
# 2 looks great because of fit and pretty print. It may look better IRL, too, since the black may be just more photogenic.
I know exactly what you mean about dresses and the need to strike when you find something.
I would just try them with some more things and review your" occasion" options. If you'll wear dresses if you have ones you like, and especially if can wear more casually and grab& go, these are a good example of being in different color groups and the black one is 3- season.

Thanks everyone! Unfrumped, I like the "grab and go" of dresses. I am definitely a dresses and skirts gal (which ends up being skirts because dresses are hard to fit). I would wear them most often a tad dressed down, with flats and a short sweater. They would get worn to church, events that always pop up in summer, and even work.

Rachylou and Gauche, I tried the red jacket with the black dress but didn't like it.

Thanks everyone for weighing in. I might just keep both since well fitting dresses are so hard to find. They are both hanging up and I'll keep staring at them awhile while I decide!

Just a thought about keeping both dresses.
It is true that they both are the same style, however I find that even if I do buy dresses years apart the style of dress I buy is always the same.
I think the patterns make them stand apart .

I agree with Celia. There's something significantly different about them that goes beyond just a difference in color, 1 is more dramatic, and 2 is sweeter and lighter.
