Thanks everyone for the comments, suggestions, and compliments! You've also confirmed my suspicions about the black/pink dress. It seemed to fit funny, and it definitely felt like I was parading around in my nightie.
This is my first order from Modcloth. I noticed that so many of their dresses had 'Out of Stock' on the website; others have said that if you see something you like there, buy it immediately because they carry very limited stock and it sells out fast. Then try it on and return if needed.
So, I chose 11 dresses with that strategy in mind, knowing I wouldn't keep all of them. The prices of these ran from 45USD to 88USD. I tried on all of them but I only took pics of the best fitting and flattering. The quality varied - I decided immediately to return a couple that just didn't meet the standard. Mostly, though, I have to say that the quality is quite high. The stitching and fabric of the dresses in the pics is more than satisfactory, I'd say, and worth the money.
A couple of those that are going back were just too short for me (can't imagine someone taller in them, yikes!) - that's another thing to watch if you order dresses from Modcloth. They tend to run short (but not always). Bonus though is that a dress that would be really, really short on a taller person will fit a shorter person without having to be hemmed! The lengths are normally listed for each one by size, and note the link to see dresses in "longer lengths" on the left side of the site. Longer lengths seems to mean anything more than 32".
Also, if you're high-waisted like I am you'll probably find that the waist on a lot of Modcloth dresses hits you at just about the right place, if not exactly. Watch out for the backs, though - I'm returning a couple of them because of their low backs, which were even lower on me because I have a short torso. I would never have been able to hide my bra band in those!
In short, I'd recommend ordering from Modcloth. Thanks again all!
