Dresses, Dresses everywhere

Here in the central Business district in an Australian Summer, I am seeing so many people wearing dresses. I reckon 1/3 of the women talking around town are wearing them, and some days nearly 1/2 the women in my office.

Do you think it's a response to the heat? I realise I wear dresses a lot in summer and so rarely in winter. So much easier than separates on the hot day.

Tell me, do you think the Metalicus store near your new job will lure you in??

I've just moved to Brisbane, where I am finding it a little hot and sticky! I can say that every day that I have gone into work I have worn a dress! Less fiddling in the humidity. And it kind of seems dressy when the heat makes too much else a little uncomfortable.
For the weekends, however, I have had to buy some shorts

I can imagine that dresses are a perfect choice for you hot summers, Anne. Even with our cooler UK summers, there are always a few days ( weeks, if we're lucky!) when only a cool, fuss-free dress will do. I definitely need more in my wardrobe.

yes, the only time i really wear dresses are during the hottest days of summer. when its really hot, i don't really want to think, and IMO dress are the prefect no thought outfits. plus, they seem to circulate air better, so i feel cooler.

Summer and kkards, I certainly have MANY days when I only wear dresses because of the heat - but they are lightweight sundresses. These are women dressed to go into air conditioned offices, and the sort of structured dresses that they often were, and the fabrics used, are too hot to wear on those hot days.

I actually think there has been a swing away from suits and they have been replaced in part my dresses. My dress code explicityly talked about dresses as an option ( trying to remember if it used the adjective tailored or structured)

My corporate office in NYC is a lot like that. Women seem to wear either dresses or jeans. Only if there is a client meeting do the top brass wear dress pants and blazers (almost never a matched suit).

I've noticed a resurgence of dresses in the summer here as well. I wear them a lot more, in a fairly casual office, just to be comfortable and cool when I go out. A friend who works in the highish corporate world got a new job last summer, and said all the women wore dresses, all the time. She had to buy quite a few, to fit into the culture.
