I did an experiment after last weeks "controversial" top purchase wherein I let my boyfriend go to the mall with me and pick out an entire outfit HE loved, and I would wear it.

Never done it! but that is a fun idea to him to pick something (and see how different man's and women's shopping can be!) ... The pink is a great color on you

I usually treat him a bit like I do DD: Show him two or three tops and let him pick which one I will wear

I love that post so much. The top looks great on you - I think he chose well.

My DH would probably have chosen something very similar for me. A simple, fitted style in a flattering non-neutral color, and he also loves when I wear a cowl neck for some reason. Maybe I should listen to him more!

In any case, enjoy your top, it does look great, and wonderful that you have someone who loves you for YOU - as it should be!!

Ha, my husband has admitted he is afraid to buy me clothes. (He is OK with buying jewelry though, so we're all good. =)) But he'd probably choose something simple and formfitting like this too.

Fun experiment. He did good, you look great. In my experience I have found most men prefer a minimal look wit clothing and especially with make-up.

Have you ever seen the Mindy Kaling show? It may be the first episode where she's got a date and she's trying on all these outfits at works. Sequins, hooker heels, etc. Her girlfriends are all that's great!, thumbs up!, fantastic! Her nemesis co-worker rolls his eyes and then gives her a whatfor: Jeans, shoes she can walk 100 blocks in, simple top that shows her shape but isn't slutty. She tells him he's a jerk blah blah, and then wears what he tells her to. Lol.

My boyfriend is a brave soul. He buys me clothes and is pretty good at it. He will go beyond the limits of good taste (roomy and brown ;>) and find things for me from my realm. He was right there with the "dressy sweatshirt." He even wooed me with Diet Coke, when he's adamantly Pepsi.

One big boon that comes from deploying him on the shopping front: he sees things I bleep right over.

One draw back: I tell you, it's just not right when Mr. Do-They-Have-It-In-Brown? tells you to stop saying green and start calling it *aqua.* I will never get over this.

I'd have been completely off if I had to predict a guy's choice, but seeing the end result I really shouldn't be surprised. It's just like you said - simple and hugging all the curves! And the majority of men (even if they can't tell the difference between green and aqua ;-)) can appreciate those things.

i concur w/ your boyfriend and what others said. also, my bf is the same: prefers simple cuts that show off feminine shape (arms, bust, waist, hips/butt, legs) in flattering colors (red/green/blue/purple/yellow/orange) or simple prints.

i comply, because for the most part, i want to wear what he likes to see me in (and also makes me feel beautiful). sadly he isn't a fan of my animal print top/dress, but loves my peep toe flats, strangely...

i think the fact that i'm 'the older woman' in the relationship makes him skittish when i wear 'cougar' clothes, literally LOL

so, i just wear them when i'm not seeing him to feel fierce, problem solved

it's nice to know that we can be attractive in simple, feminine, curve hugging things, isn't it? maybe this veers into the 'dressing for men' vs 'dressing for women' category...?

I definitely agree most men like to see women dressed in clothes that show off their curves. The man repeller layering, not so much. Although I get the impression that men like "slutty" clothes too! Maybe not for the girlfriend but on others? Or maybe in a private setting....

Ah I love that everyone has been so supportive and has tried this in some variation. This is literally the first time I did this with my boyfriend and his reactions were just so cute. Albiet he did not have a ton of patience to look and wander (he got so overwhelmed in Nordstrom). I am looking forward to doing this more with him and maybe more of the "this or that?" way rather than "jump right in and pick!"

Your experiment does make sense, although it doesn't ring true for all guys. I had a BF who liked the simple and curve-hugging thing, but only in private or when out to a bar or something with his friends. The rest of the time he preffered me to dress in much boxier shapes (a modestly/public presentation thing) and liked ruffles and lace.

The current BF confuses the heck out of me. He seems to like my basics, but often wants me to switch things up and look "special" for him. However, he often picks on "fashion" and the things other women wear. We also rarely go on outings to events where more than a tee and jeans seems appropriate.
