This is the first time I've been able to participate in the challenges on the forum! Yay!

I just happened to be wearing an outfit today that will work well for this challenge. Summer is a challenge for me due to the heat...I'm working on building up a my options little more over time.

Here's a typical outfit for me that follows my current style:
-Sporty
-Modern
-Colorful/cheery

Now...here's my question. How do I turn this into my goal style?:

-Modern
-Unique

I just don't think you can look sporty AND chic. Sporty is the antithesis of chic. I think you can look casual and chic, though. Does that make sense?

I agree Angie, I was wondering what to change about the outfit to achieve chic...drop the shoes (most obviously), change from a cami to something else? I'm wanting to move away from sporty if I can muster it

What if you put a button down white shirt instead of the cardigan and top. Roll up the sleeves, tuck it in, add a nice belt in some bright color and definitely some dressier shoes (ballet flats, kitten heels, wedgies?). I would also add a chunkier necklace. That's my 10 cents...

How about wedge metallic sandals and a voluminous banded bottom or tunic on top. A cascading cardigan instead of the classic shape you are wearing is another thought.

Dani, your cheerful colors made me smile too.

I like Joy & After5's idea for going for a more streamlined (but not fancy/formal) shoe, and I wondered if choosing a cardigan or top layer that is either a bit looser (like the cascading cardigan that Joy suggested) or more fitted at the waist could get this a bit closer to your goal?

Wow. I was *just* going to say what Danja said. That's absurd! Woven top, belt (but not necessarily tucked in), and gladiator sandals.

Your colors made me smile as well, Dani! (and I love your staircase) I agree that a change to a less sporty shoe and a different style cardigan might help accomplish your goal. Different jewelry? Perhaps a pendant or something else a little more unusual that your red beads since one of your key words is "unique."

Also, this cardigan, but with a different shirt - perhaps a print?

I would say drop the shoes, add some fun metallic or animal print (modern/unique) & then a statement or signature necklace (unique again).

Or, I've been wearing some lower slung dark denim bremuda shorts from ATL (wish I could find more locally, I purchased at MOA) with a pair of fun heels & a skinny belt also. That's another option to change up your bottoms.

Don't you just love short-sleeved cardis? And you wear yellow soooo well. Are you going to alter the outfit based on suggestions?

Dani, I really like this outfit. I think you were offered some great suggestions. For me, since one of your adjectives is unique, this outfits needs a statement piece. Something that reflects your personal style, something that will make me remember this outfit afterward. That would be the unique addition, imho.

Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone. I really appreciate the ideas. There are quite a few great ones! Shoes are definitely my problem accessory so I'm working on building up a decent collection.

I'm noticing that most of the other challenges are showing cooler weather outfits. I definitely find it easier to dress to my style ideals during the cooler months. It's too hot here for much more that a light weight cardigan and a tank, although single layers are preferable.

Laura, I think I will give it another go incorporating some of these ideas into the original outfit. I'll have to get to that later, though, but the ideas are swarming about in my head as I type. And, yes, I LOVE short sleeve cardigans...got the scoop on any more (even cascading?)?

What if we keep the cardi and add a white woven button up sleeveless ruffle shirt and a dove grey pencil skirt? A fun but dressier red shoe - patten leather ballet flat or wedge, earrings, a touch of make up and lips all bring it up to chic or did I cross over to sophisticated? Now I'm back to that other thread.

Dani, I hope you'll post a picture adopting some of the ideas on this thread. You'll look great no matter how you spin it.
