Dress up Friday? - YouLookFab Forum

I have not seen anyone dress up on Friday or any day in my community. Here is what I saw yesterday (Friday)......someone wearing pajamas (an adult professional), a child who was shirtless and in boxers sitting on his bunk bed. A teacher in a sport logo tee holding her young child. Another teacher making breakfast. Lots of people eating. Lots of people laying or sitting on unmade beds. Hair is under hats, up in pony tails, looks unbrushed, or unwashed. Lots of teens using wash out hair color, mostly magenta and teal. Fewer than half of the people in my video meetings are fully groomed or wearing clothing that they normally wear in public. I have not seen jewelry, dresses, or much makeup. I believe most people are wearing either loungewear, athletic gear, pajamas, or their underwear...

Me and the nurse I work with have been wearing brightly colored lips everyday.. She has used pretty scarves to add some color and fun to her outfits (daily), and I am wearing statement necklaces, earrings, scarves, etc. We have not changed how we usually dress other than the bright lips, and so far, we have not dressed up on Fridays. If anything, we were even more casual this past Friday because she worked outside on her porch and wore sunglasses and a casual but solid color tee, jean, and a patterned scarf. I wore a linen tee and cardigan, jeans, and statement necklace. For fun, I sometimes put my sunglasses on as well, but was stuck inside because I have to use multiple screens to be effective. (Video feed, medical record, previous notes, email from the team and my administrative assistant, etc.). This weekend, my goal is to figure out how to move my “office” outdoors into my gazebo on nice days.

So, no dress up Fridays. For anyone else using video conferencing, what have you done? Are you dressing up on Fridays? Is anyone else?

I don't have paid employment but I took a class via Zoom and was a little surprised by the level of "casual". We've been locked down ten weeks now and I have yet to skip a shower, getting dressed, wearing makeup, drying my hair (as it gets longer and grayer and messier, at least it's clean and looks somewhat familiar.)

Whatever -- it makes me feel more normal to keep my routines in place.

I am keeping up with what I find normal - hair and makeup each day. I was little bit taken aback by the scruffiness of some during the first weeks of lockdown.

An outside office sounds really fun. I’ve moved ‘my office’ too, just to vary things really and make ‘work’ less invasive into our home.

Everyday is the same...tee’s, sweatshirts, baseball hats on the guys, hair bands on the women. Kids seen rarely, heard often.

I now of course do not have any professional duties. I am blessed with some Zoom/ Google chat “ meeting s” related to church and friends. Due to camera angle really only my head shows. But, what April said. Daily usual grooming but now I’m mostly in sunscreen only- no tinted moisturizer. I try to wear a “ best color “ top which cheers me even if barely seen.

I had a zoom meeting the other day, for our church council. Everyone looked normal, and it’s casual anyway, but there were a lot of dogs in view. One person kept throwing a dog toy to her dog to fetch. Another’s Whippet, I think, spent a lot of time nuzzling its person. I had mine in my lap, one at a time, because Mr Skunky is a ginormous Scottie.

I dress as I always do. There is no lowering of my standards during video meetings. I now avoid patterns that play havoc with the video camera, such as thin stripes or checks. My shoes stay on, which is actually a departure from my office behavior of being shoeless while sitting. In my profession (college professor), I am known as better dressed than most. It is not that I dress so well but because my colleagues provide so little competition. And not just the guys!

On Thursday, a colleague and I met to rehearse a video presentation. She moved the time earlier by an hour shortly before showtime. I warned her that I would likely be covered in mud from my garden when she made that request. Was I ? No, I was there looking fab, every (too shaggy) hair in place, heels on my feet under the desk. I just could not look slovenly even when I was only rehearsing for my students. My cat, though, did provide background music.

There is almost no change in what I wear now vs pre March 13 when Covid safety measures were put in place. Retirement can be a very SAH lifestyle. I tailgate the senior’s (Age 65) shopping hour when I go for groceries and for the most part they are dressing up, as am I! Neat trousers or jeans, colourful tops and toppers, groomed with a capital G! Masked and gloved. Older men looking sharp as well. Younger folk seem to be struggling more. Jeans and t-shirts seems to be the default.

I dress up every day. So do my colleagues and the people I meet in video conferences.

My outfit last Friday: teal shortsleeved crewneck midi dress; grey nylon tights, grey suede T-strap pumps; light grey cardigan; patterned silk scarf in light and dark grey tucked into the dress; chunky teal & black pendant necklace; turquoise braided belt. Makeup: translucent powder, mascara, blush, blue-red lipstick.

I was actually surprised on Zoom calls to see my team in no makeup, wet hair and workout gear - to me or feels far too vulnerable, personal and not professional. I also think it’s important to show leadership and professionalism, so I’ve been doing my makeup and hair when I get on a zoom call, as well as wearing a colorful shawl. The rest of the days, though - it’s a crap shoot sometimes I like to be sloppy and not give a care!

I have to confess that I wore no makeup and had my hair in a pony at my last conference call--it was with the people on my team though. No customers. I was in running gear and was running late. Technically, I was "on vacation" but had to check in to go over stuff for the next few weeks. I've been back in the office and have been getting dressed as usual. Definitely skewing on the more casual side but still "dressed" for work.

I dress pretty much as I always do so no yoga pants and rarely T-shirts. Always earrings. I may skip eye makeup and tinted moisturizer unless I have a ZOOM meeting which is always church related vs work.

I am dressing up on Fridays, it is a bit of a thing with myself and my girlfriends at work, it is lovely to see nice scarves, blouses and earrings.

With my male colleagues it is interesting, some are as clean shaven and groomed as usual (hairdressers never closed in my city) and others have taken this to be an opportunity to not shave or groom themselves for the last 9 weeks.
