Time flies when you’re having fun… and oh dear, watch for the 80s. As if it wasn’t enough I was a teenager then, now I had to relive those years… fashion-wise! Just reading about fashion influences made me dizzy, imagine how it was dressing up at the time when I had already been in a long-term dysfunctional relationship with the short clothes on my tall body. I totally understand Sveta sitting this one out, I thought to do the same too! But, I never thought this exercse would be so liberating and therapeutic. So thank you to everyone who voted for this decade, I surely didn’t intentionally plan to revisit the confusing years of growing up.
Some things became so clear to me while I was preparing for today… like, why I was so hesitant to try denim-on-denim for so long. Well, in the 80s it was the ubiquitous look that I found so terribly boring. Today I can see a lot potential for fun, so I guess I have evolved and grew up in the meantime
Sepaking of fun, there is something I’ve *always* wanted to do, a look from the movie that was really big. Remember Tess McGill? Remember how she comes to the office in the comfortable sneakers, but changes to pumps just before she goes in? I always thouigh that was hilaroous and finally had a chance to try it myslef. That plus a nod to power-dressing, neatly arranged collar of my white shirt over the lapels of my black blazer.
Not to worry, I did not go to work looking like this.
Nor I wore legwarmers or big tee shirt (Flashdance), nor lace or exposed bra (Madonna), nor white socks (M. Jackson) nor plain jeans and turtlenecks (Ornella).
My work look comes from another movie heorine, Charlie. It’s very difficult to recreate ovresized look she rocked with the things I currently wear, but trust me when I say I did try to use a few kitchen towels instead of shoulderpads just for the photo shoot. What I cooked up from the ingredients I like anyway, namely pencil skirt, white shirt and leather jacket, is shown below, everything worn to work minus Mr.O’s watch.
Two things I must confess:
1) I could never say openly, but aviator sunnie on girls never grew on me;
2) I still think Charlie picked the wrong bloke, Iceman was the one to keep an eye on.
