Dress pants for Rectangle/Apple

Hi Ladies (and gentlemen, if you are out there),

This is my first post! I am a generally rectangle shaped lawyer looking for dress pants, preferably ankle length. Black is great but other colors would be awesome too.

Because of my shape, pants that fit in my waist bag around my hips or fit my hips and are tight in the waist.

I was wondering if any of you had any recommended brands or pants styles in particular that fit this body type. I had found a pair from the Limited that I loved, but, of course, they went out of business.

I am typically a size 8, give or take, if that helps.

I'm a rectangle too. I like JCrew's pants if you are looking for wool. However, if ponte will work for you, the Banana Republic Sloan fit has been my go-to for years now. I have them in four colors.

I agree with the BR recommendation. My fit issues are similar to yours and the Sloan fit works well because the leg is a slim cut. And I've had luck with their trouser styles too.

I didn't try any of their dress styles recently but WHBM might work. You may need to size down there.

I have 2 pairs (black and dark green) of Anthro's side zip slim pants that have been workhorses for me.

I'm a rectangle also. +1 on the BR Sloan fits and also the WHBM pants and jeans have fit well. Theory dress pants also work well.

I'm a fan of Boden jeans if that helps at all. Good colours, lots of different cuts. They also do some great trousers, I think they are called Richmond. I guess though it will be a pain though to ship them to US and then return them. That said, I buy clothes from J Crew who have excellent shipping and return facilities. Good luck with your search.

Great! Thanks so much! I am heading into the big city to make some Nordstrom returns today, so I think a stop at BR is in order. I will look into the other suggestions as well!

If you are going to Nordstrom, you might want to try pants from Classiques Entier (sp?). I have a lovely pair of black dress pants from last year's NAS.

I'm not sure if they're dressy enough, but the Old Navy Pixie pants have a slimmer leg and more room in the waist.

About the Boden recommendation above - they have a US website. Returns aren't free but are not more difficult than other mail returns. I don't have too many Boden pants but their overall quality as a brand is very good.

Christina - every once in a while I see a free ship, free return at Boden. I have a tough time with fit at Boden that I try to hold out for that promo. I see it much less often than I used to though.

Also chiming in with a vote for the BR Sloan fit!

Sounds like we are similar size and shape, my two pairs of Sloans work well for me.

J Crew is hit or miss for me - I found their wool trousers really bag out on me after just a few wears.
