Dress Hunt Round 1: BCBG Sizing

My local Nordies and AT had no formalwear to be found, and Macy's had about four "social" dresses on offer, none of which were appropriate. However, BCBG had a couple of things to give me an idea. I went straight from work, so I don't have the spanx on.

1-2 is a size 4 in a mesh fabric and an A-line skirt.

3-6 is a size 2 with satiny tiers. The 2 didn't feel much different than the 4, because the tiers are all attached to mesh, but the 4 is probably better and less skin-tight looking. I don't love the side-boob issues with this one. However, I like the narrower A-line, and I think it's pretty close to the shape of the skirt on the one I ordered from Ebay.

7-8 is a size S, which is a 6 according to their size chart. This dress is nice, but it's not on sale, out of my price range, and for some reason the cups were very lumpy, which really ruins the nice draping. Maybe it's because I needed a size 4? They didn't have an XS for me to try on in this one, but since it's too 'spensive, it's a moot point.

I have high hopes for the ebay one; and think 3/4 is my favorite, aside from the sideboob issue ... hmm...

BTW; you have very pretty hair

ETA: I don't really like the middle part of the first one... dunno what to make of it. Maybe will be better with the spanx.

If that's the 4 on you, it is FAB. ETA: Okay, I was confused and thought the last dress was the e-bay dress. I like it anyway though!

I love the first dress. LOVE.

Not feeling the top on the second one - it's a bit boobalicious for a wedding IMHO. Love the tiers though - I have two tiered dresses and find them very forgiving.

EAgainTA: The ebay dress is my absolute favorite style of all of them. I think it will work for you too - the mesh neckline and the lines are TDF!

I'm totally loving the first dress on you! There's aspects of the second that I like, but I think you'll be too uncomfortable with the issues around the bust. It sounds like you've probably ordered the correct size with the one you got online - I think it's going to look fabulous on you; can't wait till it arrives.
How did you feel about these dresses, and about shopping for another one in general?

Glad that I feel in sync with the comments so far RE sizing and boobage. What do we think of the boob exposure in a strapless dress? Too much?

YG, I feel really good about looking for another dress. I like these fuzzy dressing room pics much more than I like the infinity dress pics - the narrower skirts must be key in that. I feel like my proportions are more what my eye likes. I'm glad I went - almost chickened out at the prospect of going alone, but it was A-OK.

Lyn, thank you for the hair compliment - I love your short hair, too. If there is such a thing as an impish pixie cut, you have it (in a totally good way).

Bummer that the last dress is out of price range, because I think it looks the best! That said, I think the ebay one will look great. I think the first one also looks very pretty. I'm not feeling the halter-top one; it seems a bit too low-cut and tight for a wedding dress. I think exposure in a strapless dress is actually a lot less than in that halter-top one.

I like the third one best, and the ebay one looks really promising too! I don't particularly like the front seaming on the first one, but it may be just me (I have a somewhat irrational distaste for things with center front seams/ruching) and the second one seems too boobalicious for a wedding dress (also, it seems like you'll be uncomfortable with that anyway).

In my experience, I find BCBG sizing (especially with the S/M/L ones) to run really big. I normally wear an 8/M, and usually wear a 4-6 or a S in BCBG.

Rae, don't want to complicate things further, but Nordstrom has the dress in picture 8 on sale. They can probably store locate an XS if you want to try it. I really love it on you, so I hope you can find it.

That shutter pleat style is a BCBG mainstay and appears in many colors and lengths. I am not a fan though. I've read reviews that the shutter pleats fold up when you sit and they stay that way. I also have seen the pleats fraying at the edges while the dress is still at the store.

I'm looking forward to the Ebay dress!

I like the 2d dress (with addition of Hollywood boob tape a la JLo), the dress you
ordered - that I think will be especially nice in the back bodice area on you, as well -
and #8 makes you look like an Egyptian goddess - that's a compliment.

Angie and DL, it's worth a shot to try and find an xs, or at least another small at Nordies that may not have the rumpled boob issue. Thanks for the price tip. Maybe I'll call the Pasadena store since I'll be in the area soon.

RE: the shutter pleats, there is a tag right on the dress that claims fraying is intentional and part of the beauty of the dress... uh, ok!

I have to add to the love for the last dress...The fit is so flattering, and you look relaxed, romantic, beautiful!! I think I missed the ebay dress somehow, is it a similar style?

I do like the first dress, and don't think you're overexposed at all. In total honesty though, I would say it's nice but not a 10.

Rae, I just wanted to let you know that my dress was from BCBG, and that's clearly a good omen because a) I was adorable (heehee), and b) 7 years later, I'm even happier w/ Dave than I was then.

I love the one you ordered from ebay. And size-wise, I remember being surprised to go down one size in the dress.

All the BCBG dresses were actually really comfy. Stretchy mesh for the win! I hope the stripey one is the same... I see that #8 is no longer available at Nordies, but I did find it on Ebay (what would I do without Ebay??) - now the only question is whether I can try another on to see about the boob rumpling.

Have you called Nordies? There's a good chance the dress might still be in a store even if the website says "unavailable." I've found several items this way. None of which were nearly as exciting as a wedding dress, though:)

Ohh Rae that last dress looks just amazing!! (And worth trying to track down in the right size for less, if possible!) Re: strapless styles, I don't think they're inherently boobalicious, but if they're low AND blush toned then you might be getting into that territory (my gown was strapless, and the neckline was straight with a slight curve UP to avoid just that). The 2nd dress silhouette is lovely, but I don't like the top exposure. I'm still super excited for the ebay dress, more fingers crossed here!
