Once I decided to size up, I discovered that sheath dresses, particularly ones with a little structure around the torso, were a great, easy fit. Oh the joy of sliding effortlessly into a dress! I've not gained any weight, in fact I'm losing at the amazing rate of about a pound every 2 to 3 weeks. Hey, don't knock progress! Still, I'm finally breaking free of the labels and enjoying a good fit.......and cutting out the tags. lol.

I love this print and the yellow binding at the seams. So fresh! The fit is great, and the sheath is relaxed in the back (skirt's a tad fuller), which means it lays beautifully over the booty. DH loved it and then......when I took the picture.....my eye was drawn to the fact that the pattern in the center panel of the skirt isn't centered. My artist-eyed DH didn't notice it, and neither did I after two separate trials.

I do think this is much more noticeable in photography, but I'm unsure about the effect of the asymmetry. Whadya think?

P.S. I took these photos after hours of Spring cleaning. Please excuse the face!

I am not sure my eye would have been drawn to the "problem" had you not mentioned it. I do think that the piping in the bodice and skirt suggest there may be asymmetry. Then again the piping also suggests that the fabric within it's borders is a square of a larger quilt. I think you have to be comfortable with how the print is represented. If not -- send it back, but I do love how you have it styled with the cobalt jacket.

That's too bad about the pattern, but I think you're right. The panels and the way they line up are detracting from the overall look (very flattering) of the dress. I'm not a fan of the pattern non-match at the bodice either.

Hmm, now that you've mentioned it I can't unsee it. Argh. I do believe that it's less noticeable IRL though especially if you're moving. But knowing it's there would bug me.

Hmm. I wonder if you can trade it for another -- maybe the problem won't exist in a different one? SO frustrating.

Bummer! It would bother me too, more the center bottom than the top panels. And it is a very fun, fresh-looking dress.

The top tends to look as if ok, we did not pattern-match but there's a smaller amount of pattern and it doesn't look as if it almost matches; ,but the bottom looks like they cut the panel hastily and it should have been centered, but wasn't. Is it possible to look for another in the same size?

Love the dress! Can you obtain another in the same size to fix the pattern placement? I remember reading GP often orders several of the same dress/ same size and keeps the one with the best placement.... Which Is something I tried recently and it did make a huge difference to get the one that was cut and sewn the best of the bunch.

I think since all the panels don't have centred patterns it wouldn't bother me. This dress looks great on you!

Agree that it might be worth trying a different one in the same size. I think unfrumped is right - it's that this one is just barely off center so it looks like a mistake. If you found one that didn't have the whole large center motif on the middle panel, it would probably look fine.

I did find another dress at another store -- I'll see if I can get there to try it out. I could also order from the website, I think. The website photo is perfectly centered, but I don't know how many dresses they sorted through to get that!

You look fantastic in that sheath! So flattering. I love the colors and jacket together, but now that you mention it, it is sort of distracting that the pattern isn't placed better...hmmm...

I tend to be picky about that sort of thing, but I honestly didn't notice it until you pointed it out. The dress does look fabulous on you!

The bottom line is whether it will bother YOU or not, because chances are nobody else will notice.

I have on occasion ordered 2 or even 3 of the same item to try to get one with the right pattern placement, as long as returns are easy.

You look great in this dress. I would not have noticed the print if you hadn't mentioned it. It doesn't bother me in the least and generally I am very picky. I think it works with overall pattern, piping etc. But, you have to love it and if that needles you then perhaps hunt for another. Can you call and ask if the one you hunted down has a different pattern placement?

This dress is beautiful on you Beth Ann. Personally the pattern placement doesn't bother me and I'm not sure I would have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. But you need to be comfortable with it so probably worth trying another dress on to see if it is a one-off issue.

As for this dress, I would try the same dress in the same size and see if it is just the dress. With how mass produced garments are, it is very possible you just got one at the bottom of the stack, so to speak!

I have to admit I skim-read your post so I didn't read about the pattern placement, yet I spotted it straight away. I vote try for another with the pattern placed better. But then I am very fussy with things like that. You look fab in the style though!

Ah yes, Diane, you would notice it right away, because you're a sewer! I should have, since I've certainly carefully laid out pattern pieces in the past! I was speed shopping -- always a dangerous sport!

I keep imagining some girl in Bangladesh cutting out 20 dresses at a time -- puts it in perspective.

the pattern placement actually works with the yellow edging. it suggests a patchwork approach with the yellow acting as patch borders, rather an a whole dress with yellow trim.

congrats on your weight loss! lighter in spirit as well as on the scale.

how do you feel, baring the bottom of your thigh and your knees?

I think the pattern hides it quite well IRL, and wether this is a problem or not, is hard to tell. I love the dress on you - it's terrific. I second Suz' suggestion on trying another one to see if the asymmetry vanishes.

Done! Drove 12 miles to go "grocery" shopping, so I could swing by and try on another copy of the dress. The one I found isn't perfect, but the pattern is in a more pleasing arrangement. Came home with a wrap dress, too!

BJ --- I like sheaths to hit below the knee, but this one has enough ease to not pull up when I bend a little or sit, which is a plus. It's more important that a dress give a good "line," since I am rather sensitive to feeling "bulky." Still, these legs can cycle 100 miles in a day without complaint -- not gonna lose sleep over knees!
