"Dress for Success" on Aussie News tomorrow night

I was just watching the news, (Channel 10 for Qld'ers), and tomorrow night they are going to have a little story on the Brisbane Dress for Success program.

This really sparked my interest because this is the organisation Angie volunteers for.

Not sure what time the story will be on, but sometime between 5-6pm.

Angie I'll see if you can watch it online and if so, send you the link - I'd love to know what you think of our Dress for Success Volunteers - and I had no idea it was an international organisation but it sounds fabulous.

I'm looking forward to seeing it purely for the "Angie Connection"!!

How great that you manged to hear about the coverage. I've been volunteering for DFS almost weekly with a close friend for nearly seven years and it's been SO worthwhile. In fact their benefit luncheons are next week and of course, I'll be attending with my good mate Laurel.

I get the feeling from everything you write about them Angie that they are very close to your heart and I bet you do an amazing job.

The benefit luncheon sounds like great fun!

I enjoy volunteering at DFS enormously. It's how I spend time with my good friend too. It's our date with each other :0)

It's a very worthwhile organization to support.

that's great...i have been meaning to join them...i got in touch with DFS - San Jose ( bay area, CA) and heard that they are looking for a office space..and would let me know once thats finalized and they are good to go...im still waiting on that..since DFS in San Francisco is quite a commute.

Would love to hear thoughts from pple who are already volunteering? Anyone in bay area?

Well, I was just searching for "Dress for Success Brisbane" online and your post came up as number 1! I am part of the Communications Committee with DfS and heavily involved in the organisation. I am a Recruiter by "trade" so thought, rather than just giving cash to an unknown charity, with these guys not only can I donate my old work clothes but I can actually add some value.

Also, for anyone in Brisbane (Australia), I am holding a Wine Tasting event to raise the profile and much needed funds for DfS Brisbane on May 20th. We have some great prizes for a business card drop on the night and it will also be great for networking. I'm a DfS volunteer too (in the U.S. in North Carolina). Of course they need fab, stylish folks like Angie to work directly with helping outfit clients, but they have lots of other needs too.

For example, I'm working on the grant-writing team. They also need lots of behind-the-scenes help with things like sorting donated clothing, making client appointments, taking care of paperwork, collecting donated clothing from drop-off points, etc.

One of the things that I love so much about this organization is that it is so much more than simply giving a woman a suit. It's all about helping women and their families break out of the cycle of poverty and unemployment by supporting their efforts to find and maintain meaningful employment. Our chapter has a monthly support group for ladies who've found a job. The group helps the women learn how to deal with the challenges of juggling a job with childcare, meal preparation, budgeting and so forth.

Really - I get so excited about it I can hardly contain myself. When I learned that Angie is a DfS volunteer it really made her go up a notch in my heart.

oh my goodness you girls make me wish I lived a lot closer to Brisbane so I could go and help them out!

I've just checked the website and all they have is a link to the Sydney DFS details on the international DFS site - no video of the story

I did record it so if I knew what on earth to do, I could probably take it from the DVD and put it on line - but that's far too technological for me without instructions LOL (If its not difficult and anyone can guide me through it I'm more than happy to!)

But the crux of it was that they were wanting assistance (clothes, money, volunteers), and it showed 3 or 4 ladies they had helped - all who seemed really happy with the results and I think looked pretty fab too.
