Originally DS wasn't planning on going to his Grade 12 grad dinner & dance - he and his friends were going to do something separately. But in the end, they've decided to go as a group and of course, we parents are going as well.

The convocation itself is in the morning at a large church and attire is semi formal. I'm thinking of wearing my cobalt blue pencil skirt and a top for that.

The dinner and dance is in a large hotel downtown with cocktails at 5:30 followed by dinner and attire is formal. I'd rather not purchase a dress for this occasion as rarely does my lifestyle involve anything formal. I'm wondering if either my black sheath dress or my blue lace dress (pics below - lace dress obviously on its own as I wore it to Kristen's wedding) would work for the event with dressy shoes, appropriate jewelry and an evening clutch? Or are they not formal enough?
