Dress - should I order this and send the other one back?

I love the purple dress I ordered, and it's out for delivery today. However, I saw this one that may suit my body type a little better, and it's pink/ivory. It's about $50 less expensive than the purple one. I'm adding a pic of the purple one so you all can help me decide. Of course, if the purple one doesn't fit, it will go back anyway. I have the shoulders to carry off the halter dress.

BC, is it your outfit for your daughter's wedding you are having in mind?

Both dresses are lovely, and both colours will be great on you. So this will be a matter of personal preference. The pink one looks very summery, whereas the violet one will be fine for the rest of the year. I guess you will need a special bra for the pink one. And if you plan to wear the pink one at a church wedding, remember that it will probably be most appropriate to wear a shawl (or a similar item) over your shoulders while in church.

We have an upcoming cruise in December and my DD's upcoming wedding next July. I have absolutely no idea what venue she'll choose, but she and her finance aren't the dressy type, so I somehow doubt she'll have a formal wedding. I don't know yet, though. If outdoors the way my oldest DD did, then the pink/ivory dress will be better. I already have a bra that will work for the pink/ivory dress, so that's no problem, and this dress might be more versatile. Here's what I'm concerned with right now:

One reviewer posted that she's 5'3" tall and has to wear 3" heels with the pink/ivory dress. I have this same dress in a different print, and it's fine. Unless they changed the pattern, my Dansko sandals should be fine. A reviewer that posted about the purple dress said that she's 4'10" and that it fits her perfectly. I'm 5'2" tall, so that dress might be too short for me. Then again, I could wear it with lower heels.

My pink pants are coming soon, maybe today, and I will send them back if they don't fit properly and go with other colors in my wardrobe. I don't want to buy special clothing to go with those pants. I'm more concerned about getting a dress before the prices go up, provided I can find one that works well for me.

I love the purple because it's a true gown, but the pink would be very flattering...

Yeah, that's my dilemma, Rachylou. I do already have one true gown in my closet--the blue-gray one that I wore to a gala. I haven't been photographed in it, so if I wore it on the cruise or something and we decided to pose for photos, it wouldn't be like I've already been seen in it. Also, it's a great evening alternative to black.

I decided to order the pink/ivory one to compare the fit of the 2 dresses. That will, in the end, be the deciding factor because I don't want a dress that's either too long or too short for the shoes I plan to wear. Also, I'm having second thoughts about the pink pants. I really like them, but I'm not sure what the color looks like IRL or how versatile they'll actually be. I might have to do one of those K/R posts.

These two dresses seem like they would be for different occasions. The purple looks much dressier to me. For a cruise, I would choose the pink because it looks breezier.

Yes, that's also true. I might end up keeping both dresses and returning the pants, providing they both fit.

What I should have said, the purple is nice, and usually my preferred color, but the pink makes me smile.

I think that if both dresses fit, the purple is more formal and the pink is better for the cruise. YMMV of course.

Oh, I just love that pink one...I'm not partial to pink myself but Iove that dress and think it would like great on you....The purple one is dressier, but I think the pink one could be dressed up a little....wait and see when you try them both on.....

I like the pattern placement on the pink dress, too. That said, I also love purple. Oh my! If both dresses fit, I'll send the pink pants back, just because I need dresses more than pants right now.

I love the pink dress + think it would be more versatile (ie great for both the cruise + most probably for next years wedding). It looks breezier + easier + I like its scattered print. We know that you can do all types of pinks as Angie said the other day!

Well, the purple dress got here, and it's gorgeous IRL, with sequins and rosettes all over it. I haven't tried it on or cut the tags; but if it flatters, I may keep it just because. My only concern is that it's shorter than my other maxis, but that may work to my advantage if I can wear it with lower heels.

I'm almost positive I'll keep the pink dress because I already have one like it in a different print, and know how it fits. Barring a sizing problem, that will most definitely be a keeper.

To get the purple dress for under $155 total and the other one for just over $100 total is pretty good and very hard to pass up, especially since both are color perfect and completely lined.

It'll be a good test to see which colour looks better on you. I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor though.

I like both of them. The purple seems more evening. You'd wear it in the evening on the boat, right?

Yes, I'd wear the purple one for Formal Night on the ship. We cruise frequently, so it's not like it will only get worn once. And if my DD decides to have a more formal wedding, I'll be prepared. My SIL had to buy a long dress for a family wedding in Nicaragua (I'm not going because I have to work). She told me today that her dress is purple, with long sleeves and "sparkles." She, her DH and son will be cruising with us in December, and I told her to bring that dress with her.

I think they are both lovely. If they both come along at once that is fine - it just means next year you won't need to buy one:)

Yes, there are different reasons to like both. I tried the purple one on last night, and it fits perfectly. It looks good even without shapewear, which is my criteria for determining good fit. If it looks good without shapewear, it will look even better with shapewear.

I like the purple for something different and more non-seasonal. The pink looks more like what I have seen on you and a spring/summer piece,
With your cruises and the wedding you could use both in your closet.

The pants I ordered don't fit, so they're going back. I think that's a sign for me to keep both dresses, provided the pink one also fits.

The pink one got here today. I didn't have time to try it on, but it looks like it will fit. The ivory background is actually soft white, and goes well with my Dansko sandals.
