Dress - I need advice - YouLookFab Forum

Hi, I ordered a dress that I like very much. However, I'm not sure if it isn't doing bad to my figure. I'm probably Kibbe soft classic, so this dress doesn't correspond to the style recommendation. I myself can't judge objectively (as I mentioned, I like the dress, mainly because of the pattern that captivated me).
I remember that some time ago I posted on the YLF forum a few dresses for evaluation and it turned out that most of them shorten my torso, isn't that the case here too? I have a problem with dresses because most of them don't fit (I have a short torso and top torso smaller than the waist and hips). This dress also wrinkles above the elastic at the back, but I can accept that, question about the rest If the dress stayed with me, it would definitely need to be shortened.
PS The colours are not well reflected in the photo.
PPS What do you think about skirt?

I'm new here so take my opinion with a pinch of salt. I think the dress does shorten your torso, but even so it still looks really nice. I don't think the shape of the skirt with the top is flattering to you though for some reason, the dress looks way better. If you paired the skirt with a wrap top it would look better.

Oh I know why, I think you are wearing the skirt lower down, I actually like it higher up

I particularly love the dress - it is a beautiful fit and very flattering. This dress would be cute with a black belt to highlight your waist. I don't think it needs any alterations, it is just lovely as is.

I like the skirt, it is a very nice shape and fit on you. However I would prefer a lighter top and footwear, the black looks a bit heavy to my eye. There are numerous colours in the skirt, so finding a top to co-ordinate should not be too difficult - if it were me, I would wear a peach or pink top with this skirt for spring and summer.

I really like the wrap top of the dress, and overall I think you look very good in it.

The skirt is pretty too, but with the black top your figure doesn't seem as "balanced" as it does in the dress. Maybe try with different tops or a cropped sweater?

I really like the dress on you and at that length actually. The skirt is pretty, but also don’t love the top with it... or would like it better if you were wearing sneakers to keep the vibe going...

I like the dress on you. I think the skirt would look better with a wrap top sitting just below the top of the skirt to elongate your torso. Even a slightly flared top or button down tie top could work with it.

I think the dress is pretty :). I would be interested to see you in this style dress but with a longer skirt. I can imagine a more empire line style suiting you quite well where the waist is higher up and almost right under the bust, creating a long torso. The other thought I had was a skinny belt would just “finish” the look.

Skirt is lovely too however I feel I want to see you in something higher waisted xxx

Actually I think the dress is super flattering! So much so that I would continue the formula with the skirt, switching out the high contrast top for something that doesn't interrupt as much at the waist.

I also think that green is lovely on you and that clear colors and prints might suit you better overall than muted ones.

Love the dress, waist is where has to be and really gorgeous! Hm, I think I would keep the length, midi is trending and is always more elegant, but depends on your decision of course! Skirt is also good, would like a lighter top to it, otherwise perfect.

I'm in agreement with the others. Dress is great, I would keep the length. The skirt looks fine but not crazy about the black top with it.

I had similar proportions when I was younger. I like the dress on you, I think it's a keeper. I understand the fit issues with dresses and have found that true wrap dresses that come with a separate belt and no defined waist point are flattering and give a lot of fit flexibility.
I personally don't think there's anything "wrong" with a shorter waist. You can play with tweaking proportions etc and may find certain things are very difficult (paper bag waists come to mind!). However you don't need to let other people see a problem that you don't see, is my honest opinion on this.

Unpopular opinion incoming: What about a more fitted (& slightly shorter) skirt shape? I really like the fit of the wrap top portion of the dress, so I'm wondering whether part of the 'short waisted' feeling you're getting is because of the volume & 'weight' of the skirt portion (the length makes your bottom half seem a little 'heavier', if that makes sense?)

Have you tried stretchy tube skirts with a similar wrap top instead? Could work for a soft classic Kibbe Type, maybe?

Love the dress, and I think the length is prefect, too, but I like my skirts and dresses a bit longer, gal of the '90's and all...

I do see the wrinkling above the waist and as a short waisted gal myself, that always is a challenge. More vexing to me is blazers, but the fit of this is quite good notwithstanding short waist. When I pull shoulders up on a dress or a blazer, and see how it is supposed to fit, I get depressed. But there is barely extra fabric in your case here, way less than some dresses for us short waisted. I really like it on you, I can see why you love it too

I really like the dress on you and I wouldn't change anything. That green really suits you! I understand what Zaeobi is saying and I think the same thing about the skirt shape, but I still think it is pretty and a keeper!

Regarding the skirt and top, I agree with the others that a different colour top and shoe would work better.

When it comes to the black top, it is random. Unfortunately I don't have anything in the color of the skirt pattern in my wardrobe, so I put on anything The same with the shoes, I only have the black ones, I don't wear heels every day, only ballerinas. I'm planning buying light sandals with light heels.
When it comes to stretchy tube skirts, I wore it and liked it, but my belly (below belly button) is sticking out and I don't look good, but I like pencil skirts.

I think you look great in the dress! It may not be a soft classic recommendation, but I personally think it gives a very classic, vintage-inspired look on you. The skirt is pretty as well and I’m seconding everyone who wants to see it with a lighter top.

I love this dress on you! Not what I expected after reading your introduction, but the color is beautiful and the wrap top flattering. I even think the bit of extra fabric in back is nice—gives it a bit of a relaxed look.

I agree with others that the skirt would look better with a different style top.

Dress is lovely on you.If you want to “move” the waist a wide belt can do this by covering up the existing waistband and tricking the eye.Might be worth a try?but it looks very nice as it is.
