Hello all Fabbers on 31 December here in NZ. As a numbers nerd I will try not to bore you with too many. Suffice to say again that I came to YLF almost 4 years ago trying to make my overstuffed wardrobe work better for me and to become more sustainable.
In early 2017 I had just under 200 counted items, 50 of these were shoes.
I still count the same way ( no bags, underwear, sleepwear or swimwear counted: I use the same bag every day except for very special events) and now I have 162 counted items, 38 of them are shoes. Of course I kept buying during the 4 years 2017-2020 but both 2017 and 2020 were low-buy years.
This year is the lowest yet, it ended up with 12 items. One thrifted, one a gift, 10 bought new by me.
My style has become a little more somber this year, possibly no surprise as I have found this year very difficult and resigned my second job halfway through it. And yet our country has had a better year re the pandemic than most of yours! I still have fun with my clothes and shoes quite often though, the change is perhaps subtle.
I have edited out 24 items this year. 10 were worn out to my mind, and one torn. With the forum’s help it included my 2 previous fave boots that were no longer pristine. I feel good now they are gone. 18 of my 24 items had 30 wears or more, yay! 5 pairs of less worn shoes were for being uncomfortable either too high or tight. One 2010 top I had just tired of despite few wears. My Not Your Daughter’s Jeans are now gone too as they tended to dig in at my waist. I got in exactly 30 wears on them.
I am trying to buy only essentials and statements that I *know* will be well worn, from previous experience. So flat boots, one pair black ponte pants to replace a worn out pair, one pair white crops ditto, one short-sleeved black mesh top ditto.
And I have a beautiful new statement too as a Christmas treat- I believe it can be dressed up and down and I paid the full ( high!) price! It is exactly the same cut as a black one I bought last year which I have worn 20 times. So I hope it will be a winner. I truly love it.
Happy New Year we hope!
