Double Leopard for Rock n Roll Date Night

On Sunday Ben and I are heading into Edinburgh for what will be our first date night in twelve months! I would like to feel confident and put my best foot forward, however, the date will also be very casual (David Bailey Stardust exhibit, tapas followed by live music in some of the Old Town pubs).

I should be able to dress for this blindfold given my casual wardrobe and the rock edge to my personal style but for some reason, perhaps too much choice or the four seasons in a day weather, I have been unable to pick what to wear.

The number one choice this minute is a silky Ganni leopard print t-shirt +Hush black skinny cords + my Office leopard print ballet flats, however, regardless of the pieces being flattering and what Tom Ford or Mulberry says, is double leopard still viewed as a style faux pass?

If you could help out a friend in need it would be much appreciated, double leopard yay or nay, for yourself personally and for night in question?

Sounds like a very fun evening! How about a top in a rich fall color with the leopard flats? Or, wear a pair of cool boots in a neutral tone with the leopard shirt? That way you won't worry you're going overboard on the animal print.

I don't frown on double leopard -- depending. I've been known to go all matchy matchy with a leopard belt plus shoes. And I've also worn a leopard scarf with leopard shoes in the past.

I would try this on and see. Knowing your colouring, I can see it working very cohesively and not feeling like it was over the top. The flats help. Also, because you are tall, there is more space between the two leopards.

Your eye will know when you have the pieces on together. I think you should definitely wear the top and jeans and switch out the footwear if it seems too much.

I think you need to add a colored leather or denim jacket-- I don't mind double leopard, but think it is better in two small doses.

Try it and see, but my hunch is that it'll work! I think a leopard top+leopard pants would be too much but with the top+shoes, you'll have a lot of black in between to break it up.

Thank you for the feed back, it is definitely jacket weather in Edinburgh, I have a soft mid grey leather jacket which I think would work.

Lavender Moon, thank you for the suggestion, I have a couple of berry toned tops I could try. I also have a new pair of black boots which I am desperate to wear out but they are too heavy for the time of year.

Suz, I am willing the top to finish air drying so I can try this on, unfortunately my camera has given up the ghost so I'm unable to take pics.

Elly, I will need a jacket, we have had some very autumnal days here.

Double leopard sounds fab to me. Nice and maximal with your body art. What are you going to top the outfit off with - you know - because of Scotland's four season's in one day climate!

This looks great! I like the two leopards together, they seem unified by shade and diversified by the scale of the spots. Very cute and fun looking.

I think we should really put this whole faux pas thing behind us. It comes across as alienating, pretentious and not a little pathetic that a person could have so little to distinguish themselves that they have to designate themselves the guardian of The Code. Care I not.

This is the last line of RoseandJoan's third paragraph. My interpretation of this line is that she is wondering if by wearing these two items at the same time she is categorically doing something wrong according to the same set of "rules" that include no white shoes after labor day, or no double denim.

The implication is that somewhere, not here, there's at least one person, upholding those rules, that might disapprove of her outfit and I'd like to move away from that criteria as a method of judgment.

I definitely did not have anyone from this site in mind!

Thanks Isabel, the difference in tone and scale probably does make a difference. I also think you are right, there are rules which are designed to be a helpful shorthand, such as balancing a voluminous top with a tailored trouser or skirt and then there are rules which are judgemental. I fear double leopard may have passed from a 'how to' rule to a diss.

I think I will just need to channel my inner Debbie Harry and if all else fails zip up my coat
