Drat. My black d'Orsay flats have worn out. I'm not ready for that.

What do you do when things wear out before you're ready? I mean I guess I'm just gonna go get another pair. I hope I can!

Also, I have to add: I was wanting to buy some strappy slides, but now I sort of feel I ought to put it off. But I worry I'll miss the boat on the slides. All of this will be online shopping and I don't know if I can handle two things at once. Besides which, I have ring that's being resized that needs to come back, and I don't know how well the whole resizing thing will go, and I need to take my new ASOS jumpsuit to be altered...

Rachylou - when I love it, it it's financially possible I always duplicate. I know that's not for everyone but finding something I really love is difficult and I am very consistent in my loves. Can you get an identical pair? or two? or three?

Interesting Rachy. Mine also wore out after a few months of intensive use. That usually doesn't happen to me, I wonder if it relates to the style.

My pointy rose gold flats are looking worn out. After literally maybe 2 months. I can usually count on even shoes I wear a lot to get through a whole season, so it's really annoying. And they're sold out, so I can't do a direct replacement. Even though I'd be tempted not to do that out of resentment even if I could.

I do have plenty of other shoes. But I really like these and they go with everything!

That's too bad. If you think you'll still enjoy wearing them and get a lot of use out of them, I would get that second pair.

Yeah, I just wore them to death. They just worked great for so much, so often.

But argh. I got them from Zappos and they're not selling them anymore. I could get the same style in suede, but that's not the same thing at all.

Oh man! I love D'orsay flats and I never was able to find a pair that would work for my feet. That's too bad that they didn't last very long. Was it the pointy toe that got scuffed? It seems like that would happen easily because of the design of the shoe. (I've also seen a lot of beat up ones that wind up at Last Chance).

Actually, I ran down the heel. I was worried about the toe for just the reason you mention, Claire; but I wore down the heel first. Boo hoo!

And boo hoo, doubleh, I missed out on 6 pm too.

You might ask a cobbler what they can do. I've had them fix extremely worn down heels. They can fill in the worn down part with rubber. Granted mine were on boots so there is a thicker sole/block to work with.

Otherwise, stalk eBay. What I do is set up an email alert which will send you an email each day if there are any hits on your search.

Oh! I wonder if there's a cobbler around me who could do that. The one I used to go to said he couldn't. But that's was in another place.

Rachy you should see my alterations pile (or maybe you shouldn't) >< I get very ambitious about what things will work if I only altered this one thing here or there, but never take them in. Bah. I think there are going to be enough sales going on here that you might be able to find a d'orsay flat AND a slide. Checking with the cobbler is also a good option in the meantime.

Aida, I'm so feeble about alterations. I'm feeble about fallen hems and buttons! *Oh that plastic button is too too heavy. I can't lift it to sew it on.* Hehe. I have no idea why I save the extra buttons things come with. I clipped all the buttons off my Marc Jacobs military coat rather than sew one back on. Hahaha.

Ok, but my excuse is, it was hard to sit with those lumpy buttons in the back.

Rachy, I don't know what your worn d'Orsay flats look like, so shooting in the dark here, but how about the ones below? I have them and they are very comfy... pointy... with openings between straps...

I have a quart jar filled with years of extra buttons too... I'm always wondering what I can do with them since I'm not crafty at all.

i feel your pain! i have a pair of black pumps and a pair of suede boots, and when they finally die (i.e. the cobbler can't bring them back one more time), i will mourn for days, maybe months.

Oh Rachy I had a good laugh (and subsequent minor coffee spitup) at removing all the buttons instead of stitching one back on. In your defense, I hear it was uncomfortable when sitting. I can manage buttons for the most part (usually I do hubby's and ignore mine, hmmmm). For me it's more of the "oh these awesome turquoise pants in several sizes up fit perfectly... except at the waist. I'm sure Mr. Tailor could, like, add a bunch of waist darts and reshape the bum but still keep it slouchy, right? He could make these look like they're supposed to be 'my size', I'm sure of it. Yeah! I'm totally going to take these in!!" And now it's 2 years later, and those breezy cotton pants are still sitting on the pile wishing desperately that they could help me through a hot summer day -_-

I feel your pain! Also, sometimes I feel like I may be replacing something right about when it's on the outs, you know? I'm like turning the Titanic.

The good think is, I'm seeing a lot of black D'Orsays around at lots of price points so hopefully you can find some and keep going.

Oh no! You wouldn't believe. I'm look at all my shoes now. I think my Top Shop faux birkies are not going to make it through the whole summer either. I love them. I'm loving them to death...
