Our front door has dents and paint scrapes. For half the year I cover it with a cheery "welcome" banner. Now that it's fall (at least in my imagination ), I need something different. Last year I hung several lines of leaf garland next to each other. I thought it looked cute, but a certain young man (who happens to be my son) frequently got them caught in the door, which made us both grumpy.

Last winter I covered it in red, with a black belt with shiny buckle at the middle, and a beard on top. That worked, but it's early for Christmas (and I prefer to de-emphasize holidays that are connected to Christianity), so I'm looking for a fresh idea.

Its current design might work in a second grade classroom, or might get the teacher fired for sloppy bulletin boarding. Placement of the eyes is not up to me--they each cover a scratch. Having a swag made to the right dimensions is prohibitively expensive.

Any ideas?
