Does this top suit the jacket?

You all have seen my new jacket and new jeans. I really wanted a bright orange top to go with it and orange sandals. Found sandals last week and have already worn with an orange dress I have. Lots of compliments. Mainly on the dress but one on the sandals too.
New top arrived today. I love the pretty broderie anglaise lace part at the top (think you may call that eyelet in North America?). As with most tops for the jacket it is difficult to get the necklines to play nicely. So the 5 times I have worn the jacket so far I have had singlets/tanks underneath. But I think this can be OK? Colour is perfect. Is the fit good, not too big? A bit long, a usual problem for me. I tried tucked and untucked, with and without the jacket.
Thoughts? I could exchange for a size down if needed, but it feels comfortable over my hips.

The neckline works for my eye - but it does look a smidge big . Great tucked in but too much top when left untucked . Just such a great colour on you too !

This is a great top, beautiful colour and nice gorgeous on its own and with the jacket. I adore the matching elements of this outfit, right down to the sandals.

I like it best tucked into your jeans as it highlights your waist. I never mind if my summer tops are a bit big, as then they are cooler to wear on very hot days, not that you are likely to have as hot weather as me we are going into the high 30'sC this week! The HOT weather of summer has arrived.

Necklines look fine - I think you just need to embrace that the jacket is cut low/open and that’s fine. Cute top/sandals complement that will probably work in some other outfits too.

Neckline is fine. Colour is sublime (and ‘score’ with the sandals.) Definitely wear tucked in - very nice proportions that way. What a lot of fun you are having with your new jacket.

I like it tucked in too, but if you want more versatility, having it shortened a bit is an easy alteration.

It is a nice top, great on its own and under the jacket. Would you consider altering the length since it’s a bit too long? I used to get mine shortened often.

Tucked in is great - as a pear/ hourglass (?), I personally like long tops that cover my hips (rather than those that stop right *at* my hips) so my hips aren't accentuated, but YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

Lovely sandals too - I find orange footwear great for adding colour to otherwise neutral looks. They look comfy to boot!

Thanks everyone! Irina I was grateful for your thought on another of my threads that I could consider shortening tops. Do you know I had never even thought of it? And yet I shorten sleeves and hems frequently. The top ( T-shirt really) was on sale for $24 so really a cheap purchase for me. Would you recommend getting it shortened before or after its first wash?
There is no hurry as I can tuck it in meanwhile.
Thanks Zaeobi I am a pear originally I feel and then developed a side of apple! But with my weight loss over the past couple of years I think the apple has reduced. I still look good in fit and flare dresses which the orange dress I wore yesterday was, and both family and friends and 3 strangers complimented that, which felt very pleasant!

I think it works and I like it best tucked in.

Just as another possibility, I think a wrap top would really suit you and work very well with the neckline of the jacket.

It works really well tucked! If you want to shorten, wash it first and see if there is any shrinkage. Love the colour and what a match for the sandals, which look comfy as well as fun.

I agree with Brooklyn that the right wrap top might work really well also.

Jenni, I haven’t seen any around lately. But the style I had in mind was a stretchy cotton jersey or rayon style. They offer the same comfort as a t shirt but are a little more elegant. Like the ones in my Finds (which are older). The folds of the wrap might sit nicely in the scoop of the jacket neckline. But it would be trial and error.

You can also get woven style wrap blouses but they usually have a tie that can kind of clutter things up if you want to wear a jacket.

The other type of top that might look good (dare I say it, is Cee around?) is a cowl neck top. Again, I could see the drape of the cowl neck nestling into the scoop of the neckline of the jacket. Photos for inspiration. The first is Bamboo Body, the second John Lewis.

Jenni NZ, chiming in to say the orange is a lovely color on you! Bright, warm and joyful. DD has her tops shortened even though she is tall….she’s shorter waisted than me, and they look great. She even does it to her tee shirts, etc.

The color is fantastic with the jacket and the sandals. I love the lace detail which adds so much visual interest. It looks great tucked but it must be tough tucking all that extra length in to your jeans. After washing it, I would hem it. The shorter length will be more versatile and attractive!

I constantly have trouble with tops being too long — I’ve finally started to have them shortened, and it makes them so much more versatile.

Jenni, I wash tops sometimes before alterations but not always, depending on a fabric content. I wash my clothes in cold water and don’t use a dryer, so shrinkage is not a concern. Unless I shrink something intentionally I used to do it to too long sweaters.
I don’t tuck in my tops and unless a garment comes in petite size, I definitely would shorten it. And yes, I do have some altered t-shirts.
I would suggest you pin this top and try with different bottoms to find your perfect length.

Re washing before or after hemming: it depends on the fabric content. If it is all cotton, I would wash first. Otherwise, not.

Thanks again everyone! Angie I will order a size down. I did wonder that. With my weight loss my waist measurement is still supposedly that size according to size charts but by bust and hips I am a size down.
