I have been eyeing blazers and slacks over the last month. I'll be honest - a traditional jacket bores me to tears. But that might be the problem and why I don't own a plain, versatile blazer lol.
I have a feeling I know the answer to this already, but humor me. Does this houndstooth read as casual? Could it ever be appropriate over slacks and a button front for interviews? Thanks. Sometimes you just need confirmation, you know?

I should add that I work in food and beverage - bartending and serving - so interview appropriate for me is much less formal than the average corporate look.

I would totally wear that to an interview - but maybe I'm doing it wrong too.
I agree about traditional blazers but this one is fun. I think the sporty equestrian vibe works well for you.
Do you think it's too similar to your gorgeous Willow & Clay?

Thanks for the inspiration shots Kiwichik! Fern, yes, at first I disregarded this as being too similar to the Willow & Clay. But I am coming around to it because the color scheme is so much more easily incorporated into my wardrobe. I have to really work at getting a coordinating warm tone with my purple/brown jacket. But black/white/gray will go with lots of my jewel tones and all of my neutrals.

Well, I really need a jacket I can wear to interview in. I don't need one of these exactly, but I'd like one that I can use for job seeking *and* enjoy wearing at other times instead of sitting in the closet waiting for the next interview situation
My Willow & Clay only goes with jeans and brown flared cords in my closet right now. Neither is a great job seeking look lol.

I think you could dress this up for an interview and dress it down for a Saturday lunch. It's a super cute jacket. The jacket is very cute and could look great with a variety of colors.

The particular cut in the back means you have to be careful with dressing it up. You don't want your bottom's waistline showing in an awkward way. I think this might be a reason why it is displayed with casual wear.

I do think this is more interview material than the Willow & Clay. More conservative cut and color combo, and would indeed look great with your jewel tones.

I think this could totally be casual or dressed up for an interview - completely appropriate. Would look great over a black sheath dress, with a white blouse underneath and grey trousers, with a red pencil skirt...

Perhaps I am reading the situation wrong because I work in an office, but I feel that if this jacket is appropriate attire for the type of interview you would have, the W&C would work as well.

Are you thinking of pairing this with the Halogen skirt? That would be very appropriate. I don't know why but I think of that collar style as dated (the solid with the houndstooth) but I could be wrong. I love everything else about the jacket, especially the crop!

Una, it would be great with the Halogen sheath soon on it's way from Lyn, but I also hope it can go with my black cotton pants for now until I can acquire charcoal slacks.
Rita, as I said earlier, the problem is the bottoms that go with my W&C jacket are too casual.
Right now all I have is my black crop tuxedo jacket and it hits the wrong note, and also trying to pair blacks is tricky.

I agree with all the others, this can dressed up to wear to an interview. I also like your idea of buying a jacket that you can wear for interviews as well as other events. I bought a very expensive black suit couple of years ago just for the interviews that does not get worn otherwise at all.

I definitely think this would be interview appropriate with the right bottom, in your field (it would be appropriate in mine, too, actually). I'm not crazy about the black detailing on the collar and pockets though.

FWIW, I think the W&C would also be interview appropriate if you have the right bottoms to pair with it.

I really, really like the jacket -- but it communicates *office* professional to me. I may be way off base here since I rarely go into drinking establishments, whether bar, restaurant, hotel, etc., but somehow I imagine a bartender candidate would wear something a bit more fashion forward with 'tude. I'm not sure about flamboyant, but maybe more flare as in artsy.

I don't know that I remember the W&C jacket. Fitted and longer in back? What if you were to get dressier pants to go with it, and hold off on another jacket?

This seems as interview appropriate as the W&C to me, unless this is a knit jacket in which case I say it's casual.

I am curious of the type of job for which you will be interviewing. I think it really depends on the field and how conservative the office environ as to how you need to dress for the interview. Also, I know you are in California, and we tend to be more casual, even in the interview process.

No matter with this jacket though, as others have said this can do double duty as work or play.

Sure, you can dress this up or down. Houndstooth is my favorite pattern, and I regard it as a neutral.

Well, I like it, and it certainly seems versatile/potentially interview appropriate to me. It's got a funky but classic vibe going on. It's interesting but not flashy, and that's important for interview attire. And wow, I love the cropped back. I can see how it could present some styling challenges, but it just puts such a great twist on the outfit.

Unless this jacket fits in a cheeky way, which it might, this type of jacket can look frumpy - especially with classic trousers and a pencil skirt.

It can be dressed up though - but probably looks best with denim.

Okay, not to beat a dead horse, but is this outfit possibility 'cheeky' enough do we think? I apologize for the cobbled together shot. I hope it's enough to get an idea. Again, I am a bartender and my next job hunt may be for either a second golf course beverage cart job or a part time outdoor bartending at a casino for concerts. Not corporate banking, to be sure

It depends on the fit of the jacket. Remember that you will not see the detail of the shoes with bootocuts.

Do you intend wearing this combination as a bartender, or to the interview?
