does this have to be dry cleaned?

I'm looking at a dress made of polyester, rayon, and spandex. The directions say dry clean only, but couldn't it be hand washed and hung to dry?

I think it partly depends on the construction of the dress, if there are parts that might not bounce back from being washed in water. But in general I would think something like that could be hand washed.

It's just a simple ponte knit black dress with a zipper up the back.

It's the rayon content that concerns me.
I follow manufacturer's advice...If you really love this dress and don't want to risk it have it dry cleaned for sure. I have learned the hard way otherwise.

Rayon is not strong when wet and often shrinks. If you were to handwash it you should lay it flat to dry rather than hanging it up as it's likely to stretch out of shape.
