Does anyone use a robie/changing robe?

I've also seen them called towel ponchos, changing towels, surfer's ponchos etc.

I like the idea of using one after swimming laps at the pool. Going back to the changing cubicles I'm always freezing, so they seem like a good option for that.
If you use one: do you actually use them to dry off or just for warmth/coverage?
I like the idea of not having to schlep along an extra towel, so if a robie can function as both a towel and a cover-up that would be ideal.

I like the modern look of the one in the second link. Would love to hear if you have other stylish suggestions.

I have only seen this type of bathrobes for babies, not for adults. You could give them a try, Inge, and let us know how they work. I use a traditional bathrobe and I think that I would anyway prefer the opening in front.

In Australia, these are super common for children of all ages. I've often wondered why they don't make them for grown ups, and here they are! When my son had them, he used it to dry off and as a cover up, and they were great for walking around in after a swim, especially if there was a cool breeze.

I've got one (from Boden, similar to this one http://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/w.....hooded-tow) and actually use it frequently. I find it nice to cuddle up in it after taking a swim in our not-the-least-warm-but-rather-ice-cold sea. It can also, with some effort, double up as a changing cubicle. However, I don't use it for drying purposes – that's what towels are for!

You seldom find a short sleeve on a common bathrobe so I like these for exactly that fact still would really prefer to have a front closure(zip or tie) for me, and to be as thin as possible for more flattery(and still well soaking...not easy I know:-)).

I like the one Lena posted because it looks more grown-up. Try get something like that? And they aren't for drying purposes I imagine. You need a big fluffy towel for that, and then you pop on the robe, which keeps you warm and absorbs the moisture of your wet bathing costume.

I don't think the second one that you posted will work, Inge. It's just a thin cotton, not a thick terry cloth type fabric that will absorb water. I see these around occasionally, mostly kids, but I've seen them on adults that swim laps too.

Sara L (and others doubting the utility of Turkish style towels) -- I love Turkish towels, and do use them at the beach. I find they keep me warm enough used pareo-style because the fabric dries so quickly in sun/breeze, unlike thicker towels which hold water and stay damp all day. Also, it's very easy to shake sand out of it, unlike terry cloth which tends to hang onto sand all day. I've never tried a poncho-style one, but those look great to me.

Lena - Ooooh, I looove that one (stripes, yay!-), I might end up ordering it. I will probably still carry an extra towel in my bag anyway (and always a smaller one to stand on in the changing cubicles). How amazing that you can swim in the sea in your neck of the woods!
lyn - Yes, the short sleeves are interesting, aren’t they.
Angie - Yes, I love the one Lena linked to. I would mainly use it at the pool, which means popping it on when I get out of the water to walk back to the cubicles. There I take off my bathing suit and dry off
Sara - Good point (and then I read La Pedestrienne’s comment, I’d completely forgotten about Turkish hamam towels!), and good to hear you’ve seen adults where them too (I’ve never seen them around here).
La Pedestrienne - Thanks for reminding me of those! A while ago I meant to give them a try, and then promptly forgot;-) Good to hear you confirm that those towels are thin yet very absorbent.

I like the look of the second one you posted, Inge - although I see it may not be the most practical of the bunch. But it's fun and lively and a little whimsical outwardly, which I think a swim poncho is in its essence. I must say, I like the idea of it too - it feels more dressed than a robe.

Whoa, people use them as coverage while changing?! I'd be worried about flashing the world. But may be more modest and less coordinated than most. Striped one is very cute!

The most common cover-up I see at the pool or shore is a hoodie - cotton or fleece. Keeps the torso warm, and the hood can go over wet hair for extra coverage. If it's really cold, exercise tights, yoga pants, or sweatpants.

I've seen robes and tunics poolside at resorts. No towel/ponchos on kids or adults, but I've seen them advertised.

I have never heard of this. I do use Turkish towels and I love those Turkies robies. I want one.

Rachy - That's exactly why I was drawn to the striped one. And yes! I love my robe but for the pool I think I'd prefer something like this.
