No pearls for me. I like the way they look on others, but I don't love the way they look on me. I'm sure that if I really worked hard at it, I could make them work with my style, but I just don't have that much motivation to do so. I'll continue to enjoy seeing others sporting the look.

I love the luminescence of pearls, but I'm not really a cream-colored type.

If we're talking Tahitian or unusually colored baroque pearls, however, I'm accepting donations...I just have a large-scale/Nancy Pelosi version of the former.

However, I LOVE my double strand of variegated blue-green freshwater pearls (#1) and admit to wearing it way too often, especially with another double strand of purples and teals (#2).

[Ditto for a necklace that has chunky rose quartz with pink pearl spacers (#3), but I don't think the read on that is "pearl necklace."]

ETA: bad pics, but they illustrate the above!

Never! Never have and I was going to say, never will, but perhaps it's just that I haven't yet met the pearls that I want to wear.

I think we had a thread about this a while ago, didn't we? I have one faux pearl necklace, where the beads are not round but randomly shaped, and I don't wear it much. I bought it in Hawaii but haven't found a way for it to work with my style. I wish it were longer, too - it has a beachy vibe but is pretty short around my neck, which is an odd combo.

Love your pearls photos, Vix. I've made myself a casual pink pearl/rose quartz chunk necklace putting all the pearls on one half (at the back) and raw quartz chunks in front. It always gets noticed.

I have loved all of the pics from various YLF members wearing their pearls. I myself? I don't really wear them much - even though I have 2 gorgeous single strand (real) pearl necklaces - one of them was my mother inlaw's from when she graduated from college back in 1942 (she was a real feminist!) - and the other is a strand that my husband gave me on our 1st wedding anniversary. I must admit that I wear neither very often - although I treasure them both! I would like to be able to wear the chunkier style - but I always feel as though I am kind of being strangled or weighted down when I put them on - I am pretty thin and my neck is probably a little on the short side and so combine those 2 things and the look is very hard for me to pull off! I do wear a necklace everyday - but it is usually a necklace that is made by someone that I know and is much more artsy and lighter than pearls!

I wear my faux ones a couple of times a month, either my earrings, bauble pearl necklace, regular size or long strand. I have a real pearl bracelet which I save for special occassions x

I have a pearl and mixed chain short necklace (almost a choker) that I wear occaisionally but I'm more likely to go for one of my big gold statement necklaces.

Pearls, hmm interesting topic. I own 3 pearl necklaces. One is a white pearl as a pendant on a yellow gold chain. The second is a black pearl, also pendant this time on a white gold chain. The third is a single strand with a small heart in the center connecting one end to the next, the heart is white gold. I wear the black pearl the most, followed by the white pendant one. I've had all 3 necklaces for years but haven't figured out how to incorporate them into my more casual style too often yet.

I have always had a set of pearls but rarely wore them until Angie...now I own several, all different sizes and styles. She has showed us how to wear them with style:)

I love updated pearl necklaces -- pearls mixed with something else (lace, ribbon, silver balls, etc). I have a few of those and wear them often! I don't wear classic pearl necklaces though.

Hmm. I'm kind of ambivalent on pearls - I really like how they look in general (especially that light reflecting quality), but I can't wrap my mind about wearing them on a regular basis.

I think I haven't met "MY" pearl necklace yet.

Julie, that was a great thread! I loved hearing about people's reactions to pearls. I would never impart my pearl obsession onto someone else. Your style is YOUR style. Love how we are all different!

The same way in which many of you feel awkward about wearing pearls, how its not your style and you'd prefer to wear something else - is precisely how I feel about wearing something that is not a pearl necklace of sorts or an item with a pearl in it! It just feels wrong deep down in my style heart. Isn't that weird? I wear a pearl necklace or bracelet (either classic or funky - I have MANY of them) - my style feels grounded and like "Angie". I have been wearing pearls in one way or another since I was little. I used to wear pearl earrings and pearl rings too.

Pearls (both real and faux) seem to suit my somewhat "buttoned up", retro, modern yet classic style, whether it's with Converse or a ball gown. And I am a little dressier than most here in the US. You can't take the Hong Kong part out of me! The outfits that I wore during fashion week are 100% work outfits. This is how I dress almost daily. No "shows" for Fashion Week. Hope that makes sense.

I do wear pearls, but only with certain outfits, or for a certain mood. My style is less formal these days, so if I put them on with a casual outfit, it's more of an irreverent feel.

I have a set...a classic strand, a bracelet, and studs in white..l cannot find the studs right now. I also have a fake, long strand. Finally, I have a gorgeous grey strand with irregularly shaped pearls, from an ex, that I promised him I would not wear to work (too much physical labor for delicate items.)

I probably will always wear them, no matter how my style changes. But what I really covet are the more royal looking ones out of some deco painting--high sheen, unusual color, organic shapes.

I do wear pearls. I save the long strand necklace that was my mother-in -laws for formal occasions. Those occasions are what I call “pearls and pumps” occasions.
I have pearl drop earrings I wear pretty frequently when I want to lighten up a black outfit.
I enjoyed reading everyone’s posts!

This thread is 13 years old. However, pearls are timeless.

I wear them. My favorite needs to be re-knotted. My aunt gave them to me for my 16th birthday. I have some from my mother as well, they aren’t as nice. I also have a three strand faux pearl necklace that I love to wear. I have two pairs of pearl earrings as well.

I'd wear something like the first 2 of Vix's, where the pearls are not white and mixed with other elements. I used to make necklaces like that using Swarovski "pearls". Will leave the classic strands of white pearls to Angie and others that enjoy them!
Some classic things do work well for me though, and I wear them often like LBDs and gold hoop earrings

I just sent my two plain strands of pearls to the jeweler to be re-strung and slightly remodeled to make them more current. Very excited to get them back! And I wear my pearl earrings a lot!
