Does anyone make long pants anymore?!

I've been to the Big City twice in 2 weeks and on the hunt for long pants. I'm not in the workforce, so I don't want a dressy trouser. I'm looking for jeans, cords, chinos - either straight or flared - that I can wear for casual or dress casual. It seems like the greater part of women's pants are 7/8ths length or ankle pants. The only ones that came close were a JCrew Wide Leg Trouser Jean, but they were still a good inch too short. The clerk suggested that I order online and choose longs. They were the ONLY long
Pant style in the whole store. Street style seems to be mostly ankle pants or skinnies with ankle boots.

Has anyone had any luck with longer length pants? Do you see anyone wearing longer pants?

I won't wear crops or ankles and I am astounded at the "workwear" that seems to think this is OK.

I love my full length cords from Talbots.

I still see most people in my 'hick town' wearing full length pants, but you're right that they're thin on the ground at retail right now. I think it's ridiculous. I'm tall, so I guess I'm used to ordering online to get pants that are long enough.

I'd check Talbots, Eddie Bauer, Old Navy, and Gap.

My problem in life has largely been the opposite- I can recall a time not too long past when it seemed that all jeans came in a 32” inseam by default! I have a 28” inseam, so a lot of the “cropped” styles are full length on me. That said, most of what I see in the stores and online are meant to be ankle length or cropped so I can imagine the frustration for someone with longer legs.

I like these Jen7 slim straight jeans that are also available at Amazon. The inseam length is 31" so I had them hemmed because I'm only 5'5". I wear them full length not cropped. Most of my pants are cropped and I wanted something different this time.

What Inseam do you need, Carla? I am generally not looking for casual pants, but can keep an eye open as I browse.

I recently got the jeans you posted above, and love them. Perfect for me, with sneakers or my new red shooties (with minimal heel).

Wellll, I recently ordered a pair of jeans ( flares) from MPG that are so full length I have to have them hemmed ....which of course I haven’t gotten around to . Beautifully fitting “ dressy” jeans , if you will . And not expensive . Really impressed with them - you might like them . I’m on my phone so no find .

These jeans are full length on me! I also think amazon has the same brand, but under the name of Democracy rather than Wit and Wisdom. My dark pair is actually from amazon, though I kept the W&W find. They have other styles too, though I love the boot cuts. I think NYDJ also has full length styles.

ETA - too short for you, I fear. But for others this may be a good full length, as it is on me.

Carla, you just have to hang in there until I'm Benevolent Dictator of the world, and then all women's pants will be sold with length measurements rather than descriptors, rise measurements too -- and then we can all choose from the various permutations to achieve the fits we want for our beautiful individual bodies rather than sorting through all this cropped/ankle/high rise/low rise folderol.

(I will also be nominating Angie for Secretary of Perfect Pants Length, which is roughly equivalent to Secretary of State in my regime.)

I agree wholeheartedly. And needing tall sizes and a lower rise bc I’m short waisted makes it even worse. Gap and BR have always been my go to’s but they don’t have much to offer right now, and the ones they do have just don’t work for me. I Just ordered some jeans from Lands end, and the fit was great, but the front rise is 12-13” which is a no go for me. I did see late last night that American Eagle has some bootcuts and flares available online which come in 34” and 36” lengths with a 9-10” front rise. They’ll be my next ones to try.

Elizabeth P - I'm thinking a 36. 34 always seems a tad too short for PPL, even with sneakers, and 32 is flood. At 5 ft 7 in I'm not a true tall, but my inseam requirement is longer than what is in store. I'll probably order the JCrew jeans. They are a nice denim and come in dark and black and at least I know my size after the try-on.

I mostly skipped the cropped/ankle trend because even the petite cropped lengths were too long on me, and I didn't have patience or time to hem, plus my eye just never really adjusted. I felt short and stumpy in the crops, and the ankle lengths were basically full length on me. I don't even think my legs are all that short proportionately....but I'm only 5'.

I have some recently purchased so-called ankle length PETITE skinny jeans, that are scrunch length on me!! And some front slit straight leg trousers that are supposed to be ankle length but are definitely full length.

And I'm okay with this..... I miss scrunch. When I contemplate hemming and turn up the hem, it just makes me feel like my legs look stumpy.

Of course a big difference in past couple of years is that I rarely wear heels anymore.

Don't get me wrong I like the cropped/ankle length on others, quite a bit. I am just top heavy I guess, inverted triangle. So it just looks off to me. I look better with full length pants and yes I will have the patience to hem when those are back in stores in full force.

Runcarla, J Crew longs is the way to go. Otherwise you will need to buy something very expensive, and designer, like Simon Miller, if there is a style you like. Designers tend to have longer lengths that can be hemmed.

I agree with Staysfit. Longer lengths are available in designer items which means that they are likely to filter through to mainstream retail next season. Have you tried Zara or other retailers that refresh their stock every few months?

hmmm...or maybe not on LLBean if you need a 36. as they define Tall as 34...

The hem allowance on those J Crew jeans looks pretty generous, if you don't mind losing the cool wide cuff...

I'm pretty sure Land's End does women's jeans with 36" inseams. Is Long Tall Sally available in Canada? They seem to be a go-to for tall women.

Carla, you are singing my tune. I believe we must have similar inseams, as we are the same height. Right now I'm wearing a pair of Bettona pants from Athleta in a blissfully long "tall" size -- they're sort of yoga pants but good for working from home and running errands. Athleta has some good tall options (I have three pairs of their pants in full lengths, all talls).

I have seen some full-length options in the Pilcro line at Anthro (I feel like I'm always plugging them, but they're so good for my needs!). Lucky Brand is good for offering some longer inseams in their tall lengths as well. I wouldn't pay too much attention to measurements of 34" or 32" or whatever as listed, because my husband and I both have issues with finding pants long enough, and some 34's are cut like 36's, some are more like 32's. I believe they just need to be tried on. Good luck! And YES, please, to more designers making full-length pants.

Ah, yeah, if long enough for you is 34" or 36", you'll definitely have to order online. Loft and Ann Taylor both have talls online, as do BR/ON/Gap. Those and Eddie Bauer are where I get most of my pants/jeans. Oh, and try Duluth Trading too, although they're in full-on winter gear mode right now. Boden has longs but their longs are most brands' regular length.

This has been my complaint for several years. I hate ankle/cropped pants on me. I prefer a 32-inch inseam. Sometimes, "longs" in the ankle version hit 32. For jeans, I always buy longs and have them hemmed. I have the best luck at Talbots.

I got the Tahoe wash... love that it has white stitching. I actually hadn't realized they came in black, and am SERIOUSLY considering those as well, esp for 48% off!

36" is long! No wonder you have trouble. Good luck, and I'll keep my eyes open.

I have the same complaint. My 7 F A M that are wide legged and high waisted from a few years ago are very long (and expensive) and my Levis from Florida are long. If Levis fit you then try the Levis store. I find most Levis don't work for me. I just lucked out with these ones. The Frame jeans I bought in June are long. I roll them up. Also, Yoga jeans seem to be long. I personally don't like all that stretchiness.

I hate shopping for pants lately. I have long limbs and a short torso, which gets hilarious at times. I struggle to find pants for work, because they have to come down over my work boots. Most talls have that extra length in the rise, which makes them the fashion equivalent of a strapless jumpsuit on me. I buy pants that look like they're full length pants, and when the brown truck delivers them, they're ankle length on me. It's frustrating.
I was at Costco the other day with a friend, and there were some faux suede pants that looked long enough, so I grabbed a pair. I probably need to release the hems to get PPL for work, but otherwise they're so close to perfect that I asked my friend to grab another pair if he was back in Costco anytime soon. They're very similar to a pair I ordered from h&m that looked full length on the model but turned out to be short on me when they arrived. I now have three pairs of pants that fit dress code requirements at work (and I actually like enough to wear), and that is just going to have to be enough; and if the bosses don't like the bleach spots that are destined to appear, I do not care because I'm not going through this any more for some clothes I'm only buying to keep the managers off my back at work LOL
