Need some advice and a DIY Question

I'm in love with these(I know they won't be everyones taste but stay with me ). But i'm wondering if i should buy or i should try a DIY project?

I have a coupon code to make them cheaper but i know as soon as i wear them people will scoff at me and say things like, "i hope you made those yourself" etc etc etc.

The knees would be easy to do but i'm not sure i could get the bleaching right. Finding a cheap pair of skinny jeans that are 100% cotton is difficult and i've never tried to bleach anything that was a mix of synthetics because i heard it doesn't work well? Anyone else have experience with this? I know that's maybe a long shot but i've tried to google without a lot of progress and i hate to ruin a perfectly good pair of pants...

Ooh, I'd love to see you do this yourself (because then you could start with skinnies that you like their fit), but that bleaching seems tough to get right. Notice that they have two colors of 'bleach', but maybe the greyed spots are bleached and the white splatters could be paint?

I thought most skinnies were 98% cotton and 2% spandex. Is the spandex trouble for bleaching?

Why not grab any pieces of discarded denim in a likely fabric content and try the splattering part?

You'd would look SO cute in these. I hope you can figure them out. . . !!

The bleach part you like looks like spatters? I don't see
why non-100% cotton couldn't come out looking just as good.
Possibly slightly different, but that wouldn't be bad.

Sarah - yeah...i thought it might be paint too. i thought i would try diluting the bleach to get different variations of white spots? BUT now i'm thinking...what if i use white and grey fabric paint instead? Splatter paint on there with a small toothbrush or something? Then i wouldn't have to worry about how much the bleach is going to spread either....HMMMMM! I like this idea a lot better!

Vildy - Thank you for the link! I'm sure 100% would work but i'm finding it very dificult find a cheap pair of skinny jeans with 100% cotton content. They all seem to be a mix of things.

I have wondered alot about that no drip bleach used for bathroom cleaning-does it bleach clothes? If so maybe it can be more controlled for spotting and running like paint?

(Another way to threadbare jeans is with sandpaper or an electric sander)

yeah i got the distressing jeans down pat. I just use the hubby's x-acto(sp?) knife, make some cut and throw in the washer and dryer. Presto! I will never spend a lot $ on jeans that are just ripped up.

And i've never heard of no drip bleach before...i don't know if that would make the spreading process any different or not?

Now that Sara mentioned the paint - I also suspect it's paint.
I like the paint idea a whole lot better, too. 'Course they're not
my jeans. I think you could work this out so you love what you
end up with!

Nicole, what about a bleach pen? You know it is like a Tide pen, only it is a Clorox pen? What a fun DIY!

When I looked at them I thought splatter paint. I think a combo of bleach and paint would work. I'd load up a brush and "flick" it at them. Find a nice open area. Spray bottle would be too uniform unless you have a really faulty one that sprays really randomly.
