Does anyone have any experience with the Off-Hours Homecoat?

Sorry I can post a find. It's cold!!! I came across this on an instagram feed....seems I am very late to this party because its already gone viral. I tend to run very cold. I like heavy layers, I sleep with not one but two weighted blankets and layers on top of them. I do not care about flattering at home but about comfort and value. Their marketing is very well done "inactive wear" who knew this is something we might need. I change into workout clothes when I get home and often wear those until I change for bed with a long heavy tunic sweater for warmth when not exercising. This would be in that catagory. I'm not sure I'm not intrigued more by the hype or a wearable weighted blanket which sounds like heaven. Does anyone have any experience with this brand? At $395 for the Lunar it's not cheap, but if it actually lived up to it's buzz it might be a worthy splurge.....

Well that's an interesting bit of video marketing - kind of made me laugh . This is a cool-looking product, and maybe ingenious too! I think you either " get it" and "need it" or don't with something like this. Do you think you'd be comfortable moving around the house in one though? It sounds lovely if you don't move- which maybe is the point?

I'm also chuckling at your 2 weighted blankets, layers and sweaters. Add this to the mix and no-one will be able to find you

Well, I love the idea of a home coat. And I own a selkie for camping, so that tells you I’m already inclined toward quilted... stuff. But I’m wondering if I’d like a tie closure. That’s one thing that bothers me about my At Home cardigans - no closure. But the reason I don’t wear my robe more often is because of the tie-waist. It’s all kinds of fussy.

Lisa - Lol! I didn’t see that but it’s very Ode to a Nightingale” one of my favorite poems. “Fade far away, dissolve and quite forget….The weariness, the fever and the fret”. But in answer to your question, I’m not sure because it’s a matter of fit and it’s one size fits all. Plus I usually like a full closure - buttons, tunic or zip so things don’t come undone. I’m not sure if the one tie would do that. But walking around in a comforter in the middle of winter well that’s the siren’s song…but is fantasy better than reality?
Rachy- yeah. Closures. It’s an issue. I understand no full belt- sausage alert. But toggles, buttons might make it more functional. That’s why I was hoping someone had caved and had irl experience. It’s either awesome or horrible. I can always pack on the layers…..

Intriguing! I guess it depends if you want to be wearing this whilst doing home activities - making cups of tea, tidying, eating meals - as well as lying on the sofa reading or watching tv? For my life, I could see it being useful for early morning working on my laptop. For the reading or viewing I think a blanket does the same job and covers your feet.

I haven’t tried a weighted blanket - it appeals because DH likes very light weight covers which never feel substantial enough.

Sal - I realized I’d been creating weighted blankets all my life by piling on layers of covers. If the blankets didn’t have enough density I felt uncomfortable and had difficulty sleeping. Who knew this would become a “thing?” But the real deal was an adjustment. I felt claustrophobic the first night and almost sent my 15 lb blanket back. By day 3 I loved it. When my son wanted one for college but never used it I snapped his right up and plopped it on my side. Sometimes I wonder, maybe just one more…. But I’m not sure on the home coat. That’s a ton of cash to burn on anything less than fabulous and used a lot. Of course the lunar black is $100 more than the others. Grrrrrrr. But buying a lesser version is always a disaster. But I’m intrigued. Not sure enough to plunge. But I’m hoping someone will have a personal account.

Oh my, weighted blanket high five ... I love that thing. I get SO cold at night; I have a magic bag for my feet, socks, warm jams and plenty of layers.

No help to you on this housecoat, but it does look rather tempting!!

Helena - “magic bag”? Is there something warm I don’t own? Yes to socks. I like my thorlo’s to sleep in too. I’ve also slept in my barefoot dreams zip hoodie robe if it’s really cold under all those layers. But magic bag - please describe!!!

Following with interest. I am intrigued by weighted blankets, but have never taken the plunge. There are nights I’m not sure if I’m actually cold or just need to feel more blanket on me. Is that weird?

Gryffin, it's sort of like a hot water bottle, but it's filled with beans or something and you just microwave it for a minute ... the best thing ever for the cold-footed! I have a whole basket of them so no one has to go without hehe

I’m under a weighted blanket right now I LOVE mine . Helps with restless legs , stops the tossing and turning , and generally soothes me into submission .

I am of no help in this, as my thermostat has completely changed and I now cannot stand anything too hot… but I wish there were a weighted blanket that is cooling! (I’ve see one advertised but it a super chunky knit…and dog claws are a thing in this house) I love the weight of blankets on me but can’t take too much warmth.

I am the one who is always opening the window and kicking off the covers! And it's not due to hot flashes, either!

Anyway...this looks....cosy. But for me, inconvenient. The risk for me would be those wide sleeves (which would be long on me, I think). I feel like I'd be swamped in the thing. Yet it intrigues. It would be a bit like wearing a quilt, which would be nice in a cold house, for sure, as long as you were sitting still.

Stag - that’s not weird at all. I remember staying at a pension in Austria where they had incredible down quilts. They weighed a ton but weren’t hot at all. Best sleep I ever had. Wish I could have taken all the bedding home.

I had forgotten about that. If I don’t buy the homecoat maybe I will treat myself. The weave looks really sturdy. I have standard schnauzers and I think it would be ok. Although I cover my blankets with fleece dog blankets. Adding to the poundage. They cook cooler because of the weave and cotton.
Suz - yes you are the only one opening the windows! I won’t open mine till spring. Although I get plenty of cold blasts opening slider for pups and going out after them!! Brrrrr!!! Agree sleeve length would be key. So many intangibles. Maybe the bearaby……

Walking around wrapped in blankets is a Staysfit household tradition…..the habit passed on to me by my parents, and taken up by my children and DH as well. In my teens, my mother purchased some sort of wearable comforter, (maybe called a Snugli? Or is that for infants??! ). like this only with snaps on the sides. And it may not have had sleeves as much as being a wearable tube/sleeping bag. It was lightweight and cozy, but it did not last very long. The material pilled and the batting bunched up when it was washed. This looks like the improved version. In terms of its weight…..my UGG fleece robe weighs 2 lbs 5 0z. So it would not be much different than wearing some heavy clothing under a heavy robe….. I’m not sure 5 lbs is going to feel very weighted……. In terms of cost, it would seem to depend upon how much you wear it and how long it lasts…..it isn’t pricey if it works for you…..

I am more intrigued by the bearaby blankets, I run hot at night and still like the cozy feeling of heavy thick covers…..so the tree blanket has caught my eye. I asked DH for a fleece throw as a holiday gift since mine has worn out. I plan to show him this…….and am thinking these would make nice gifts for DD and DS.

Stays fit - agree anything is worthy if it works perfectly. I’ve seen those snuggly garments and they looked like they would not wear well over time. I’m not sure this is right either. I had eyes on that bearby but then forgot about it. I’m going to ponder that more seriously. If you get one I’d love your thoughts.

Shevia & Suz - I can’t comment on bearaby but if you love the feeling of being snuggled you’ll love a weighted blanket. I have to move this to the priority list!!!

DH ordered a bearaby blanket for me as a holiday gift (no secret gifts anymore in the Staysfit household) so I will report back…..

I have a magic bag that I use as an icepak when I get a bad headache…..very nice……..

I would think washing it would be problematic tbh. You'd probably have to use one of those industrial laundromat washing machines.

Staysfit- Looking forward to you report!! That may be the way to go. Never met a weighted throw I didn't like!!
Suntiger - I have the whirlpool duets frontloader for a washer. It's huge. I can get a very thick king sized comforter in that puppy and the dryer is bigger. But I would probably dry clean to preserve it's life. But I'm holding off for now. It's a high ticket item and other less costly alternatives, like the bearaby, may be the better value with higher happiness factor.
