The thing with me is, I'm always worried that on ME, that is a butch look. This applies to no one else--it's my insecurities. Well, I should try them on. They're cheap, too!

Try them. I have no problem with butch looks but I don't think these shoes will have that effect, if that makes sense.

And......d'oh! Would have helped to check the sizing first--not just the shaft height.

Zappos came up completely empty. Amazon will have my size, in black. I'm a bit disappointed. I had quickly gotten fond of purple. I'll check around. Black is still probably good...will need to think about it. You are lucky, Amy! And you don't happen to be a size 9, are you? (I'd still be hoping you kept them)

Yes. If it's true that they're 15" in height, amazingly I could probably wear them...I have tall-ish lower legs.

You can try them for sure, Nancy. I'll be very surprised if the length works. After almost 5 years on this forum, the 20 eyelets have never worked on anyone petite. These boots are very tall in the shaft. But that doesn't mean there can't be a first time

Just sayin'. I get that they can be tempered with feminine, but I see no problem with embracing the toughness. I totally think it would be hot.

Thanks, Una. I get a little sensitive about this. I was actually thinking of writing a verbose, essay-like post in response to Angie's blog posts on tomboys and menswear last month--on what is the strongest determining factor that makes us "feminine": our clothes, our bodies, facial features...maybe I should still sit down and write something. When I was around twenty, some (non-native English speaker, but she was still very fluent, but maybe culturally clueless) woman from Taiwan told me that if I were a man, I'd be really good-looking! WTF! Now I'm thinking I really should write about this!

Anyhow, tough is indeed awesome and cool, and I feel more "don't mess with me" (in a happy way) now than ever!

So I ordered them--there's free shipping and if it doesn't work out, free returns if I order something else

It's gonna be close, but I think I can manage the height. We shall see.

Excited! I am also eagerly awaiting a report on your glam golf shoes, Una!

Mochi, I totally understand where you're coming regarding the butch look. I once was mistaken for a man. And more recently when I wearing my sequin shirt and brown leather pants, I got asked if I was a cross-dresser. You did not want hear the string of words that came out of my mouth. Although the guy was drunk and I was standing outside a drag queen show. It still stung, stung a lot.

Interesting, Mochi - I'd love to hear your thoughts. You may not have been around when I posted about certain clothes making me feel like I'm in female drag... so I definitely have some feelings in this area too! And of course, there's more to it than that. Anyway, you are so articulate and wry, I'm sure your perspective would be a fab read as well as enlightening.

I really hope the purple docs work out for you Mochi! I don't think you look butch, but I would love to hear your thoughts on what you think makes you seem butch/tomboy and how it makes you feel. I know Una and Rae have a tomboy side to them which makes their outfits so much more interesting. Trying to do UWP is a little tough for me sometimes, because I feel like my interpretation is always so girly/ladylike and I have to remember to not let it get too cutesy and sweet.

Angie, I thought YOU were petite and don't you have a 20-eyelet pair of Docs? Does the *petite* aspect refer to the *length* of the calf and the length to the knee? I'm a bit confused. Thanks for checking back in if you see this, or Mochi, maybe you can answer it. I hope you get those purple Docs.

Angie is 5'6". I'm 5'3", and the boots may not work, but I have some hope that they will. I don't like the docs with fewer eyelets (14?) because they'd hit my calf at an unflatteringly wide section and shorten them.

Yes, I can see how the 14-eyelet may hit in the wrong place on the calf. I hope the 20-eyelets do work for you, Mochi, because I love them and I love the color, too. I'm 5'3" and would love to see them work for you, because then they'd work for me, too. How do you plan on styling them? Hard and soft edge combination? With jeans and leggings as Amy showed? I say go for it, Mochi.
