Do you wear lighter wash jeans in the summer?

In cool weather, I'm always in dark-wash skinnies, but when warmer weather rolls around, I like a light, faded worn-in wash in a bootcut, generally worn with thong sandals.
Is this hopelessly out-of-date? As a middle-aged woman, should I stick to a more sophisticated dark wash?

Marlene, I'll be following this thread with interest. I've been wondering this myself, being over 50. My initial gut feeling is that it would be a casual summertime option.Thanks for bringing this up!

I'll be watching too. I've been thinking of a light wash jean for summer, but not with faded areas, if that makes sense. I'm thinking they may be ok if evenly colored. The trick is to find them.

Hi Marlene,

I don't think they are out of date if you wear them with tops and jackets etc. that look current, and I'm convinced it can be done in a more sophisticated way (if you're a bit worried lighter denim looks "too young").

I'm sure other ladies will chime in with more ideas soon. And oh yes, have you seen this blog post?

I think Louise gave a good example there- lighter wash denim can look sophisticated if the skinny jeans are in good condition and fit well. Even then, I still think it would be a sophisticated casual look rather than being suited to the smarter workplace.

*I* don't wear light colored jeans summer or winter because I think they are not as slimming as dark wash. The women I see pulling off light wash have very slender legs. How light are you talking?

I usually stick to medium and dark washes. I like the contrast with lighter, summery tops.

I'm not sure how light you mean, though. I'd still define Louise's skinnies as a medium wash, so we might all have different mental pictures of "light."

I agree with the others that it depends on what you mean by light. I have one pair of dark, dark boot cut jeans that I cannot bring myself to wear now that the weather is warmer. But the jeans I am wearing are still medium-dark, just not dark-dark. I hope that makes sense!

I'm in the medium-dark camp here. I don't own any light-wash jeans (except for white ones). But I do own light-wash clams that come out in the summer.

I do like and wear lighter denim, but as a pink skinned blond I suit light blue in general. I do love a pale denim jean with a woven white top. I think cut and condition of the jeans will make all the difference to keeping the look sophisticated.
