Do you use primer under make-up?

Hi Everyone:

Do you use a "primer" under your make-up, i.e. Smashbox Photofinish or any other brand? Does it work and would you recommend using it? If so, what brand?

I don't. I use lots of moisturizer and a very subtle tinted moisturizer - no foundation. This works for me, but people's skin needs are different.

Yes indeedy!
I find that it stops the slide of my eye make up and makes everything last longer and look better (even after a mid day session at the gym). I use L'oreal Studio Secrets No.1 (and I'm cheap, so I wait for it to go on sale buy one/ get one half off and I use two coupons)

If I wear foundation (as opposed to a tinted moisturizer) I do wear primer. I swear by Laura Mercier's.

Absolutely! I use the one you are considering, Smashbox Photo Finish, and really love it. The color looks "apricot" but it goes on clear, and it smooths the skin beautifully. I then use YSL Touche Eclat concealer (the absolute best, in my opinion) and a little Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. Once you start using primer, you'll never stop! (p.s. I buy the small .5 fl. oz. travel size because the large pump size always dried out when there was still about 1/4 to 1/3 of the primer left...frustrating!)

Ooh! Ooh! I know this one!

I used to use Smashbox primer and loved it, but it's SO expensive and I got tired of only being able to get 2/3 of the product out of the bottle! Then I discovered that Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel does exactly the same thing for a fraction of the cost! I like Smashbox's Photofinish foundation primer, it's expensive, but one pump will do your entire face. It really does keep your foundation from fading. To save money now, I use Neutrogena 70 SPF sunblock with Helioplex. It's a bit heavy but it keeps my makeup on all day. I put it on a clean face and let it soak in while I do my hair to prevent any cakiness.

I don't have sensitive skin and I require full coverage from my makeup. I also wear powdered mineral makeup (hope this helps)

I use Olay Regenerist Serum as a primer, especially under my eyes. It's a superb wrinkle-fighter, relatively inexpensive and hypoallergenic. Love it!

I forgot to mention that the FIRST THING I put on my freshly-washed face and throat is SUNBLOCK. I have done this for over 30 years. My current favorite is Neutrogena Age Shield Face SPF 55 with Helioplex. Because it is creamy, I let it sink in for a couple of minutes before applying anything else. Believe me, consistent use of sunblock on your face and neck will pay off YEARS later. You will look much younger than you really are.

No, I've never tried a primer. I use moisturizer, then foundation only on the parts of my face that need it. It seems to stay put on its own.

I don't use it under my face make up but always under my eyeshadow. It keeps your shadow in place all day. It makes a big difference for me.

I use the Laura Mercier mineral primer. I used to use the oil free but that didn't work for my skin type.

MaryK I was just coming in here to say that! The chafing gel is what I use too! Same ingredients, cheaper price! Though I like to hide mine somewhere discreet or put it in a different container lol.

I don't use face primer everyday because I think repeated use can cause my skin to break out, but I do use it if I plan to go out at night or know it's going to be a long day.

However I use eyeshadow primer religiously.

I also sometimes will use a tinted moisterizer under my airbrush makeup.

Yes indeed! The best I have come across is Urban Decay Primer Potion. I use this in the summer and for going out. My eyelids are pretty oily that time of year and that stuff performs miracles as far as I'm concerned. No creasing for hours and hours and hours.

In the winter I switch to Too Faced Shadow Insurance. If you dont have that oily of eyelids I recommend that. For me it doesn't work quite as well but the Urban Decay can dry my lids out in the colder months if used a lot.

Haha, Mary that is what I have heard from numerous friends - Chafing gel as primer! I have a tube somewhere (I actually bought it to a while ago to combat the *embarassing* chub rub phenomenon). I use primer only when I'm using liquid foundation a.k.a. dressing up. So far I haven't even made it through the Clinique sample I got at the counter LOL

Aboslutely - ALL the time. I use the Smashbox mentioned above - I will never go back to putting on make-up without a primer first. I cannot believe the difference a primer makes in minimizing the wrinkles and pores and keeping your make-up in place!

Yes, when I wear foundation I do wear the primer! The only primer that I use is Estée Lauder Illuminating perfecting primer! It works great for my dry and sensitive skin!

I only use foundation when I want to be very dressed up and polished. Most days, I just use a swipe of loose mineral powder by Make Up Forever down the bridge of my nose.

When I wear foundation, I love Stila Perfect & Correct Foundation. It has the primer built in, and works beautifully with my wildly combination skin. I buy about one bottle every 10-12 months, and use a makeup brush to apply it, and it lasts longer.

I've been trying Revlon's skin matching makeup (it changes to match your skin tone). Tried it with the primer Friday and have to say I didn't like it. Got better colour without.

The oxygen makeup sounds really really interesting. I believe in oxygen because I have to tell y'all, I have always come out of surgery with great skin. Hahaha.
