I am okay with having a few things that are for very dressy that I do "hoard" and not likely to dress down and use at other times. So I have to be careful not to over-accumulate in this capsule.
What I'm doing better at, is not hoarding tops, jackets & pants for work only. I used to really avoid wearing most of these pieces any other time and had "second stringers" or less-loved tops or jackets for other times. I had the fear I'd mess up the work wear and then where would I be? And wore tennis shoes and sweats instead of boots or comfortable leather loafers or oxfords.
Now I realize I'm going to want to replace or update those items more often anyway. And, I don't want to take up space in my closet and dresser with so many separate items. So if I have a nice black sweater, I am feeling more like I will survive short-term if something happened to it. Of course, I can have back-ups to avoid roadblocks, as Angie wrote about, but now I'm only doing that only occasionally, because I'm finding that I may want a slightly different "black sweater" or whatever a year from now.
-So I am now wearing more of my blazers to go on errands, have targeted some nice but comfy work shoes and boots for shopping, and wear some work tops with jeans or work slacks with maybe something with sparkle or more fun style for smart casual, and overlap some with church. I don't have complete overlap, but more than before.
Then I find I need a much smaller very-casual capsule and am happy to wash & repeat- wear those often.
