Do you like or dislike things with designer logos?

I'm just curious. Do purses & things with designer logos (like Louis Vuitton, Coach, Chanel etc.) or very recognizable patterns (like Burberry) appeal to you or turn you off? I don't have any of these types of items yet--I think if anything I might consider a Burberry scarf, but otherwise I feel like logo items are kind of showy and might make it seem like I'm trying too hard. And I have to admit I'm a tiny bit biased when I see someone wearing a Burberry check wool coat and Burberry rain boots, or carrying a whole set of LV luggage...I sort of think it's a little crass. But then again, I could see how if people are into a certain brand, they might want to collect a whole set of stuff. Like a few months ago I bought a diaper bag by Ju-Ju-Be (mainly because I wanted a big diaper bag for long outings/travel, and they make a huge one), and I found this whole forum of people who are addicted to Ju-Ju-Be and have whole rooms full of diaper bags (OK that is a bit weird!). Before I never would have noticed, but now that I have one, I can spot those Ju-Ju-Be bags a mile away--it's not a logo, but the patterns are very distinctive. I don't necessarily mind the look of the logo patterns like Coach & Burberry etc., but so far I haven't bought anything like that for fear of sending the wrong message. So, how do you feel about designer logos (either buying them for yourself or seeing them on others)?

My first instinct is to shy away but then I've carried a Chanel quilted knockoff with the chain handle at various times in my life. I guess I
don't want to be a reverse snob any more than a snob so I would
go ahead and use the item if I liked it for itself otherwise.

Personally, I don't like the way the logos look; I think they look a bit boring. Now, distinctive patterns are a different matter.

I'm not a fan of obvious logos. It looks to me like trying to impress with the name. If an items is beautiful it should be obvious to others without having a logo identifying the maker/designer. I am not sure if that is reverse snobbery but it reminds me of the stereotypical nouveau riche who try too hard to ensure that everyone is aware of their status.

Perhaps that is reverse snobbery after all.

I'm not drawn to things because they have a particular logo however I do love Chanel handbags and if I had the opportunity to own one I would be comfortable with the fact that the logo is displayed. But the attraction is the beautiful design not the logo. I certainly wouldn't wear or carry something just because it had a certain logo

Obvious logs and brand names are a turn-off, but subtle logos are fine as long as they don't detract from the style of the item. I wouldn't buy something b/c it has a logo but if it was subtle and I really liked the item, I wouldn't not buy it either. I have a few t-shirts with the polo horse (Ralph Lauren) b/c I really like the tee and the horse is not the focal point.

I don't mind distinctive designs and patterns and I believe they can be worn tastefully. I don't like it when someone wears a Burberry scarf in an outfit that doesn't really go with it just so they can wear the brand -- it looks like the scarf is wearing them instead.

I prefer subtle logos and do not care for all over logo prints. I think the Burberry plaid is lovely, but overdone and seen everywhere. It's a personal taste. I know people who are obsessed with their logos and and feel they are a status symbol, but that's not my thing. To me It applies to luxury items and those that I consider more mainstream. I don't want the designer's name (ie. Tommy, Juicy, etc...) screaming out loud from my clothing. I've also noticed the oversize Lacoste alligator and Polo horse on men's clothing and am not a fan.

I'm not a fan of logos.
If I am going to provide advertisement space I want to get paid.

The look does not bother me so much, i.e. I do like a vintage Coach leather purse WITHOUT the leather fob (and from before Coach went all tween with the C logo).

Certain brands - and styles of certain brands - don't bother me, but the ones that are heavily knocked off here do. The giant Cs all over Coach bags, the LV logo, the LV checkerboard (damier?) pattern... I just feel like people would sneer at me for carrying a knockoff even if I happened to have a real one! I Because I don't have an impressive job title and my clothes would not be up to the same "luxury" status, I'd feel like a fraud.

However, I don't mind the leather Coach bags with their little nameplate on them. It seems less intrusive, and less like an advertisement of how much you want people to think you spent on a bag... In fact, I'm stalking such a bag on Ebay as we speak for a possible xmas gift to myself.

I second what Laurinda said -- especially Coach vintage bags (have 2 from ebay that I really love, but they don't scream "Coach").

I have a strong preference against logos. I'd rather have an item that's distinctive for its beautiful craftsmanship or material than simply logos that scream "look at me."

Obvious logos turn me off.

I would certainly wear a Burberry scarf because it's a pattern and not a logo.

However, I will not carry a bag with obvious logos all over it. I am not being paid to carry it so I will not be a walking billboard for the brand.

I don't care for all over pattern logos or large, showy logos. A very small logo is OK, The item must outshine the logo (or implied meaning) of the logo if I am to buy it.

I've never been drawn to logo printed items so I can't really say if I'd buy it or not. I do have some Anne Klein shoes (that I never wore lol) with her A/K on the hardware buckle. Similarly, my Fossil purse has a little skeleton key that hangs off it that I find fun. Guess I'm okay with logo hardware more than logo prints But then I just love hardware - period!

I don't own Coach because of the massive logo's...I just don't find those bags attractive...
But I own lots of Burberry items, Michael Kors items , LV items, some Tiffany, vintage Dooney... I guess subtle logo's are almost unavoidable these days.
I am ok with that. I must be at an age where I really don't care what strangers think of my logo's:)

Dislike logos. Not sure I want to be the walking billboard for a brand of clothing. That also goes for the tiny embroidered logos on shirt pockets or shirt chests.

I don't like big obvious logos because I'm weird about advertising of any sort. Don't ask me why but it drives me nuts, to the extent that I sometimes *avoid* buying things that are heavily advertised! Weird, I know.

I would probably buy an item that I really liked anyway, but it would always bug me if it had a huge logo. I don't like those all-over letter prints, either, but I think that is just an aesthetic thing. The look is just "meh" to me.

Not a fan. In many cases it can really date an item quickly, especially the Coach label on bags, IMO.

Loathe, unless the logo is abstracted or designy as opposed to a monogram. For example, I think the Paul Frank monkeys and skulls are pretty cute and I wouldn't kick 'em out of my closet.

It depends entirely on the logo and it's placement. Many of them can look awful, but logos can also be extremely tasteful. To my eye, the Chanel logo is the most beautiful logo in the world. I appreciate it's simple graphic design and the incomparable legacy behind the brand. Nothing can touch Chanel - accept maybe Valentino

Greg wears a lot of BOSS, and the branding is so incredibly subtle and tasteful.

These logos, and the Prada and Burberry logo, I wear with pride because they are about talent, heritage and craftsmanship.

I dislike wearing anything where someone can immediately guess how much I paid for it. This has mostly to do with avoiding judgement. I hope when I am older I achieve Taylor and Angie-maturity when it comes to this question.

As others have said, it depends entirely upon the logo and the placement. If it's big, blaring and clearly an advertisement I will hate it. If it's just like a maker's mark, I'm fine with it.

I don't care about brand names and I am not impressed with any given item based on such. For instance, if I think something is attractive, I couldn't care less who made it and if something is ugly to me just because it's Kate Spade or some such won't change my mind.

I agree with the sentiment that if I'm advertising for a company, I should get paid for it. I won't pay to be your billboard.

I dislike items where the logo is the design but really appreciate the interlocking C's of Chanel or the pretty Mulberry tree, these logos are like an artists signature.

Strongly dislike logos. They can be really off-putting, and in my field I need to be accessible to a lot of different kinds of people.

I'm not a fan of large logos and branding, but, like Angie and others have said, if it's unobtrusive or subtle I have no big problems with it. I probably have only one or two items in my closet that have any kind of logo.

It's rare that I like something with a logo but if I did I wouldn't rule it out. My Coach bag is logo-free, and I took the hang tag off too.

my parents gave me an LV satchel for my 30th Birthday- I carry it occassionally. I have one coach bag in leather with a self stitched small logo. I have a linea pelle that I love without obvious branding and is probably my favorite handbag of all time. I've also bought some artisan bags from etsy artists with amazing leather and craftsmanship but no obvious branding. Yet strangely enough I'm also attracted to the Hermes Birkin. Never gonna have one but still there remains a certain je ne sais quoi....
I think " I'm all over the map" on this one!

I'm not a huge fan of logos, except for Gucci bags with the brown G's on them. For some reason I don't mind that logo. I'm least a fan of big logos, Coach often has C's but they are very large in size. I guess I prefer mini sized logos that can act as a print versus a loud advertisement. A nameplate on a bag doesn't bother me. I am not a fan of hanging keytags though, I always take those off.

I really dislike visible branding of any sort, but especially the giant dangling metal or imprinted logos on handbags.
