Do you have fashion related collections?

Angie's post about designers got me thinking about my fashion doll collection. It consists mostly modern Barbies plus a few vintage Barbies and a few non-Barbies like my Jason Wu designed doll. I also have a small collection of fashion and beauty advice books from the 1940s and later. I love the design and craftsmanship of good doll clothes, and I love being transported to a different time and how women dressed and thought about dressing.

Barbies and books like these were actually my entry into enjoying fashion more for myself. do you have any fashion related collections?

I also have a small collection of fashion and beauty books (and also etiquette) from the 50's onwards. One of my favourites dates from 1961 and is called Fashion and Fabric (it is a home ec textbook). Some of its advice about, for example, planning a year of clothes buying, is quite pertinent today!

My interest in fashion has always been accompnied by, and followed, an interest in costume history.

I don't have dolls or books that are collectible (maybe, one or 2 books in the distant future will be, the resale is already higher on Amazon than the purchase price). I do have 3 vintage dresses that may or may not be collectible, they are from the 40s and 50s -- how collectible, I don't know. I collect them though.

I have a collection of peignoir sets, I used to buy them vintage and new but haven't for a long time. I went through them recently and saved only my favorite ones. Sometimes I wear them but not very often. In the picture is one that I wore when doing a dance competition with my Madi.

Do vintage clothing and jewelry count? I really like (and have a mini collection of) 50's beaded sweaters and rhinestone jewelry. I also have my Mom's original Barbie (from 1960 ish) . She has pierced ears and hair that curls. I have one original outfit, but lots my mom made for me (her).

Rosee: I really meant "collections" not "collectibles.". I'm don't care about the arbitrary financial value, but more about those things that fascinate and delight us

So yes, vintage anything counts! Or a collection of Seventeen magazines from the 80s......

Anne: I do agree that some of my older books have still relevant advice. And because women sewed more in the past there was lots of good information about fabric and construction, I think.

Tracina: how fun to collect peignoir sets? And I love how you put it to good use :-).

Jjsloane: Mmmmmmm, in college I aspired to beaded vintage cardigans but they were out of price range. Love! And how great to have your mom's Barbie. I lost all my dolls when my parents divorced and my husband is convinced that's why I collect them now.

I have a couple of camisoles with beautiful hand done crochet from the early 1900's, I think. They have very small fitted waists but I used to be able to wear them as blouses. I've thought of having the waists let out to be able to wear them again, but have never done it. Then there's costume jewelry that my mother wore in the 50's.

Well now you mention it, I also have at least a years worth of Dolly magazine from the 80s (an australian teenage magazine) I used to borrow Seventeen from the library.
