Do you have a 'wallet style'?

The zipper of my old wallet was broken so I went shopping for a new one. I had the old one for maybe six or seven years, so I thought it might be fun to get something different now. But what I ended up with was more or less the same style as my old one! The only difference is that this one has an even more minimalistic interior. Back then I didn't use all the compartements, so I thought it would be alright. And it really seems to be the perfect size. I love it!

What kind of wallet do you use? Do you have a wallet style?

My main thing is , I need to keep all my cards in them. Plus the cash shouldn't get crumpled and the all important place for coins.

I toggle between 2 styles. One a clutch and other a 3 fold one. I never go for any other style, even if I do: I turn very unhappy with it and switch back.

My wallet style has gotten more compact in the last couple years, as I've tried to pare down the weight I carry in a handbag. My latest is a Longchamp I got on a great sale -- it looks like the one pictured here, but it's burgundy snakeskin.

Yes, always 3 fold, always an external zippered change area to quickly get my subway tokens. This narrows down my options quite a bit! There's really no reason for 3 fold other than habit, I suppose, so I might branch out soon

I also want to have all the important cards with me, but I never have to take all my cards at once with me. So my driver's license goes only into the wallet when I'm heading home where I have access to a car, my international student card only when I'm going abroad and so on... At the same time I can then remove stuff like my cafeteria card. So there are never that many cards at once. And I don't lugg cards for hair stylists and stuff around with me all the time...

Jules, I only need to show my ticket for public transport on demand when a ticket inspector shows up, so I don't need to have quick access.

I actually use two wallets on a regular basis. I always carry a very small single fold with compartments for coins, bills, and drivers license, medical cards and one credit card. This wallet allows me to carry smaller bags like clutches and cross body or just put it in a pocket.
A larger clutch type holds other credit cards, especially for certain stores, gift cards, loyalty cards, senior discount cards, membership cards, etc. I grab the larger wallet when I know I'm going to need any of those cards. I'll also use a larger bag.
One thing I've learned is that wallets in bright or light colors are easier to find in a dark bag than black.

Good point about finding a light colored wallet more easily in a bag, Joy! I guess I'm used to not carrying around all that much so I never have to search for long. If I had more in my bag it would be a different matter...

I've used the same small blue suede "wristlet" as a wallet for the last decade. It is beat the heck up and ragged looking now and I keep trying to replace it but never finding something that is exactly the right size/shape/color, etc.

Like Joy, I carry a couple of different wallets. I have a tiny Coach one that carries only the bare minimum for smaller bags. Space matters!

I also have a larger Marc Jacobs that carries most essentials. The bill space isn't long enough tho, drives me nuts.

If I didn't have to schlep around 2 pairs of glasses and could occasionally go minimal, I would love to have one of these phone wallets. It would be so easy just to grab my wallet and go.

What I use is technically called a card case and it's just big enough to fold bills in half and for a few cards.

I am a bit picky when it comes to wallets. I need quick access to my public transport card and university ID. Additionally, a coin compartment is a must. I prefer something not too long or too thick so it can fit neatly into my smaller crossbody bags.
This is what i am using now and it's perfect. I only wish it came in a fun color. I would duplicate in a heartbeat.

It's funny, I've realized that I still do 3 fold because many years ago as a teen, when my wallet was slimmer and I guess pants looser, I used to go out purseless with my wallet in my front pocket. These days I definitely carry a purse and a thick wallet that doesn't go in pockets. So there is no reason I can't do a longer wallet style, but it does not feel right.

Oh yes, I have a wallet style. I am a longtime user of the card holder, which is basically a small, flat wallet that holds two or three bank cards and a bill or two. It doesn't open. It's basically as small as a wallet can be. The reason I'm such a fan of the card holder is that I so often go around without a handbag, so of course my wallet has to be able to fit into my coat pocket or, in the summer, the back pocket of my jeans. I think I was so traumatized by the diaper bag I had to carry around for a decade that I've got to the point where I want to carry as little as a man!

If I wear a skirt, or need more stuff than just a cardholder and a lipstick, I do carry a handbag. I have a much bigger "lady wallet" inside the handbag, and it's a decent leather one (made by Fossil) that has at least twelve spots for cards, and a compartment to put coins. I find lady wallets clunky and awkward, but useful if you've got the space for them.

Okay, so i am the only non-minimalist around. I have a long sleek wallet that I can carry my checkbook in if needed. I know, I know. I do have a debit card. But not everyone takes those by me, and they will take local checks.

Mine looks kind of like the pics below. The whole thing unzips and it has a zipper in the back for coins.

It's big, but I only carry large purses. What I love is the zipper, it holds everything in and it's really quick to unzip and get to my cash/cards. It also has alot of compartments and I make use of all of them. It can be used as a clutch on its own if necessary.

Isn't searching for the perfect wallet like searching for the perfect BFs? To save space tiny purses or save weight in my computer bags, I carry an old-style men's tri-fold. My everyday wallet is this clutch.

I use one very similar to the one Janet posted. It is compact and fits in all of my bags. I do not like changing wallets when I change bags so the wallet must fit in all.

i use the same style as thistle. i've been using that style for about 15 years. its funny because before that i only used the style that janet posted, and i never thought i would use a larger one. but now i can't see myself going back to the smaller one.

For most of my life I either had a coin purse with a debit card and drivers license in it that fit into a jeans pocket, or carried a few cards and a bill or two tucked into a flip phone crossbody case. This is still what I carry going out to movies or walking around.

Funnily enough, it's when I got really focused on cutting down costs and couponing that I upgraded to getting a bag and a wallet like Thistle and BlondAmbition. Store loyalty and coupon cards from several grocery and drug stores, credit cards and debit cards used for specific categories of purchases, gift cards for stores like Petco where I could buy a card for 30% off retail price, it all takes up space, and often the stores are next to each other so I'm running several pre-planned errands at the same time. I very rarely carry any cash though. It's so much easier to track and budget electronically through Mint or something if I don't use cash.

I always use an envelope wallet, I love the way they look and can hold all my cards! I have a small coin purse that I can slip a card or two into if I don't need to bring the whole wallet. That being said I have a purse 95% of the time I go anywhere, so I like the envelope style best

Oh yes. I definitely have a wallet style. This is my wallet style (pics below too). I have Requirements. It has to be slim and as unfussy as possible - no folding and unfolding, no difficult to get into pockets, easy to show ID. I tried versions of this from Hobo, but it's a tight fit to get cards in. I find the ones from mass-market Target much more amenable.

I used to carry a tri-fold wallet crammed full of frequent buyer cards and the like. It got heavy and I always forgot to use the frequent buyer cards anyway, so these days I'm carrying a card case. It's got a clear exterior pocket that my transit card goes in and a zippered compartment that holds a couple of cards and a little cash. (Change ends up getting thrown into the bottom of my main purse.)

The thing I love the most about it is that it has a chain that can be clipped to the inside of my purse, but I clip the chain back on itself so it has a little wrist strap. I can fish it out of the purse, loop it around my wrist so I'm ready to scan when I get to the fare gates, then have cash/card right there to pay for my post-ride morning coffee.

I don't know what you'd call this style, but I bought it when it was on a giant discount a year or so ago and I just love it. Holds all my cards plus money and even an extra battery for my phone.

I like rectangles with an easy outer closure (magnetic?) because I am clumsy and because it looks vaguely clutch-like if I head out with nothing else on me. with a square I feel like it ought to fit in.my pocket whether or not I have one and though it is too fat... because it must have a roomy change compartment too. also outer pocket for quick exchange of business cards. and plenty of card slots and a transparent ID window for my press card. Bonus if big enough to hold my passport or laminated national IDs without being too unwieldy to fit a small sling bag.
