Do you get stuck on certain items?

As you all can tell from my pictures, I am completely stuck on this grey cashmere hat (or maybe it's stuck on me). Also on a roll with my grey foldover boots and the vintage cognac Coach bag, which I've been using since I got it. I feel like this makes for good PPW, but not sure it's helping me be more creative.

Am I being practical, boring, or both?

If you find something you love, and looks good in, of course you'd love to wear them all the time. That's a very natural thing to do. They become your go-to favorites. I had a few things like that, but then after 1-2 seasons I got sick of them from wearing them so much.

I really do go through favorite items. I wear that black cameo necklace so much it's good that it's not something I have to wash! I don't think there's anything wrong with having favorite pieces and wearing them to death. Come spring you will probably find new favorites.

I know exactly what you mean. I have two pairs of J Crew minnie pants, and I wore one every single time I went into my office (3 days a week) for the entire summer and fall. Plus I wore them to nearly every other event I attended--church, school conferences, lunch/dinner with friends, parties, you name it. I wondered at first whether I was just taking the easy way out, but I love those pants! I do wonder, though, whether having such reliable fall-back items gets in the way of trying something new.

I tend to get more use out of new to me items. Then after several weeks, it falls into place in the closet with the rest of my things. On the other hand, I can get really stuck on a type of item or silhouette for a whole season - cropped jackets, sweaterdresses, etc.

Teri, me too. I've realized that I'm just not a fan of mixing up which shoes I wear (except on special occasions), and so I keep my collection small and versatile so that they're no guilt about unworn items. I do the same thing with purses.

I think it's totally practical to get stuck on items as long as you take that into consideration for your shopping. I get stuck on shoes, purses, and pants, so I don't stock up on those. I never get stuck on tops, so I have a wider variety of them. Also, creative outfits don't require for everything to change each time, in fact getting different looks with some of the same items can require even more creativity!

Absolutely. If I love it, I'll buy multiples. Although sometimes you don't realize HOW much you're going to love something until you do wear it. And wear it out!

eh eh.. all the time! Since I was little! When I have something I love I wear it all the time!
Right now is my faux fur vest and my wide leg jeans!

That's how you can tell if you really love something.

If you put something on and smile, that's a good thing. That means it's "you". If you put something on because you can't think of anything else to wear that's a different animal altogether.

Lynne--I like your comment about wearing something often because you love it vs. not being able to think of something else. Good way to sort out whether you're in a rut.
