Do you follow one in one out rule for shoes?

I have a pair of black over-the-knee boots in my shopping cart at zappos, but don't want to replace any of my booties or other boots with this purchase. This will be my first OTK boot purchase ever. Do you guys follow the one in/ one out rule for shoes or do you only apply the rule to clothing? Thanks!

I don't follow that rule for either clothing or shoes, but I'm still working on building a completely functioning wardrobe, so I'm still filling "holes." I suppose this might apply more to someone with a shoe fetish who had, say, 100 pairs of shoes and no room for any more. At last count, I think I had about 40 pairs of shoes, counting gear.

I don't have a one in one out rule, you don't already have OTK boots so go for it and don't feel guilty x

Oh no, only if a pair was a replacement for a shoe which was tired or uncomfortable.

I go with what Becky said.
I do found that I am hard on my shoes, so if it is a pair that I wear a lot, I'll only get a couple of years wear out of them. Then they get demoted to around the house wear (if not heels) and a year or so after that, I'll throw them out.

I only have about 12 pairs, but don't have the work, entertaining or cold weather requirements that many of you do

Usually, only because I have a limited space where my shoes live, and there's no place to put extras. It's not always a strict 1-in-1-out method, though; usually I throw things out as I realize they're worn and unsaveable, and then go and look for a replacement pair at some future point; occasionally I wait until I find the replacement to throw something away.

I tend to do a one-in-one-out inventory control...even with shoes. Right now, my closet is filled with no room to spare. So if I want to bring something in, something has to go. Now with that being said, I tend to get around it by blurring the boundaries. So if I want new boots but there are no boots I want to get rid of, I may get rid of some shoes. That way the shoe area of the closet has room for the new addition. Ditto with tops.....I may aquire a new button front and get rid of a dress...opening up some hanger space. And yes, there are only a limited amount of hangers and I am firm with myself.

Heck no! I agree with Kristen 100 percent!

If space were more of an issue I might be more on board with the 'one in, one out' thing, but not until the shoes are falling down on me or taking over my bedroom!

Ok, then. No, there's definitely no rule about shoes in my closet other than if I like them and my budget can handle it, I buy them. I have feet of iron and I love shoes, so there's no self-control for me:)

As a matter of fact, my old college roommate and I were reminiscing last week. She said the one thing she remembered about first meeting me was my "hundred pairs of shoes and a box full of hair bows." Hey, it was 1986:)
